so who's going to tell the people? . . .
who's going to start telling Americans the truth -- even though they know Americans don't want to hear it? . . .

Dems seem to prefer the "chickenshit approach" to politics and government . . . the one that prevents them from saying or doing ANYTHING that someone might potentially criticize . . . by doing nothing, they can only be criticized for one thing -- doing nothing . . .

Dems will only start winning when they resolve to start telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth . . . about EVERYTHING . . . . truths like . . .

- the American way of life is going to undergo drastic changes, and soon . . . we can either manage that change, or wait until it destroys us . . . the illusion of wealth we're living under is just that -- an illusion . . .

- Americans' use of energy must drastically reduce . . . and alternative energy must become a national priority of the highest order . . .

- the war in Iraq is phony, and has killed not only several thousand Americans, but tens of thousands of Iraqis for no discernable reason . . .

- the official version of what happened on 9/11 is fiction, and the investigation must be re-opened to find the truth . . .

- the economy is a weak and getting weaker . . . drastic measures (including tax increases, and ending the war) are required immediately to forestall disaster . . .

- the ever-increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of a few is contributing to the weakened economy and, consequently, to a dangerously weak nation . . . it must be corrected . . .

- poverty and hunger are epidemic in the world, and getting worse in America . . . correcting this is the responsiblity of all Americans . . .

- protecting the environment must also become a national priority of the highest order . . . we're destroying the sustainer of life for humans and all other species . . .

- the Congress is pretty much owned by corporations, whose employees and lobbyists actually write much of the legislation that Congress considers -- and all too often enacts . . . corporations must be regulated so they don't accrue excessive power and influence (like they already have) . . .

- the corporate media deals propaganda, not news . . . their purpose is to keep us misinformed, ill-informed, and/or uninformed, depending on the issue . . . corrective action must be taken . . .

- without universal healthcare and control of drug and other medical costs, the economy will continue to weaken . . .

- the U.S. has committed crimes against international law, against the Geneva conventions, and against humanity under BushCo . . . one of the most damaging is the use of depleted uranium weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the devastating impact it's having on our troops, on Iraqis, and on the Iraqi environment . . .

these truths -- and many others -- are extremely difficult to face up to . . . when confronted with their reality, many Americans choose to look away and not believe . . . watching "American Idol" is much more comfortable than actually thinking about the world you live in and your personal responsibility to it as a member of the human race . . .

no, Americans don't want to hear it . . . but whoever tells them the truth will at least have a chance of getting the country to change course before it's too late . . . (although it may already be -- too late, that is) . . .

just a rant . . . thanks for listening . . .

1. People like Hackett would. People like Brown will not, ever.
And people here are stupid enough to believe that Brown is somehow more progressive than Hackett. Not hardly.

6. Brown is canned-good politics. He's been appointed to protect
the status quo. He's as anti-progressive as a Democratic candidate can be.

Hackett was a rare opportunity to move us beyond the corporate machine. The corporate monsters, with Chuck Schumer leading the way, stomped progress into the dirt.

It's just that true popular opinion is not the same as MSM presented popular opinion.

7. How does that fit with 64% disapproval of the * admin?
"Who won on American Idol?
What is Benifer doing today?"

Those are MSM presentation of what occupies the public mind.

"How can I pay this electric bill on my salary?"

That's one of the topics that really occupy the public mind, and which are not presented by the MSM.

3. I used to blame the Dems, now I blame the people who know better.
Waiting for someone else to state the obvious is so much more chicken shit than going down to our Republican congress peoples office and saying no way.

We must take responsibilty ourselves.

The Dems aren't the people, we are the people, and when we say enough to the Republicans, in person, long enough and loud enough, then we will see some change.

8. I got the newsletter from our local foodbank
It was all bad news. Since 2001, the needs or the foodbank has shot straight up. The demands of school lunches for the poor are now 31% of the enrollment.

We are sick of hearing how great the economy is. It isn't.

W sold out America and the bushbots saw to it.

13. dems have talked about dsm, iraq, nsa, ports, the economy, budget,
health care, supreme crt, patriot act, environment, terrorism...........

and no one listens or they get attacked. not only by the repugs, and not only by the media, but by our party, by posts like this that attack our dems for bush failure, incompetence and corruption............

i too give it to the american people. those people that dont have time to be informed, those people that dont want to be informed adn those people that purposely spin information to comfortably sit in their party of rah rah regardless of the mess and distruction of our nation, and the future of our children.

17. "dems have talked about " . . .
and that's all they've done . . . quite frequently caving to the BushCo position at the slightest hint of controversy . . .

sorry, but posts like this are needed . . . because no one in power is telling the American people the truth -- about ANYTHING . . .

12. You forgot one of the Biggies, and Dems used to say it all the time...
We must immediately make drastic cuts in military spending and the entire military must be restructured to conform with the way things are, not how we think, or wish, they were. I know rumsidiot said this, but he has done nothing to implement it.

14. Anyone familiar with the Rococco period in art?
Predominantly paintings, anyway...

The Rococco period was a short time in the middle 1800's, before Romanticism took hold. Paintings were typically pretty, colorful, and shallow. They showed images of royalty in fine clothes playing in pretty fields, on swings, etc., stuff like that-eye candy for the royalty of Europe. In addition to being entertainment, they served as a distraction to the awareness that royalty was coming to an end, at least as far as their traditional way of life was concerned.

Compare that to TV today. American Idol, Survivor, TV in general. It's a distraction for the masses that don't want to think the days of 'every man is a king in his own castle' are coming to an end. And guess what-it works. Americans won't really wake up until it's over, and China owns half of the US, and Europe's standard of living is so much higher than ours (which it already is, but it will become much more so.) Until then, we will keep ignoring everything but TV, and keep yelling "We're Number 1!" continually, so that we don't have to think about how we're not number 1.

15. Tell people to check out places like DU.
This is where I found the truth. Like others have said above, it's hard for people to get past the distractions of "bread and circuses" to take the time to really seek the truth.

18. Howard Dean does so regularly
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 06:47 AM by JNelson6563
and it's fun to watch the spineless trip over themselves to get as far from his truthful statements as possible. Even more fun is when the truths proclaimed previously by Dean come to be glaringly evident.

:toast:

BTW, if all you DUers want folks elected who will truly represent you, you're going to have to do it a precinct at a time. That means get out there and start making change happen. Pissing and moaning on DU will get you all nowhere though it's fun and easy.
