Tony the Idiot on CNN
He is the dumbest man on TV BAR NONE!

He was quesitoning this guy from the Universist Church - a new religion of some sort...and he kept asking the poor guy, "DO YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST?" as though that were some bar that a religion would have to hop over.

then, he was silenced when the guy said (paraphrasing) that you don't have to watch CNN for long to know that Faith causes more ills in the world than one can imagine.

"Let's leave it there"...the great CNN sign off when the announcer can't make a snappy RW comeback.

1. I heard that too, I think Tony is threatened
by someone who believes in Jesus as a historical figure, but not as 'divine savior.' I turned chicken noodle news after that interview...sheesh.

8. I'm glad I missed it. I have issues as well when people worship
Jesus Christ. He was a man. I thought we were supposed to worship God not son of God, a man.

10. Unfortunately, there's a lot of Christians out there...
...that worship the Messenger more than the Message.

"Do ya bah-lieve in JEEEEZUS?"

"No, but I believe in His works."

"BLASPHEMER!"

2. THE BEST!!!
His co-anchor, Betty Nguyen, said that after the break we're going to find out if Tony's right or wrong about something...she added that he's probably wrong as usual...he is the only man on TV dumber than you-know-who.

9. ALL Cable News is the same now
Fox, CNN, MSNBC. It doesn't matter anymore. They are all under the control of the government now. I don't watch any of them anymore.

11. Fair enough...
but my problem is that for my workstyle I almost have to have this stuff on all the time otherwise I for one won't be up on all the BREAKING NEWS like missing white high school girls, powerball jackpot winners, vitamin supplement issues, paralympic sportsters, prostate enlargement, bulimia and anorexia, bad-boy athlete steroid use, men trapped in water towers, car chases...you get the drift.

Seriously, I don't want to miss the excitement when something goes down...I'm addicted to BREAKING NEWS...I just can't get enough.

When I was a kid, NBC SPecial Report meant, the Cuban Missle Crisis, the Death of JFK, MLK, or RFK, the invasion of the Dominican Republic, The Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, and other earth-shaking moments, forever emblzoned in my mind. Now, breaking news is anything which crosses the wire...instead of "JUST IN".

13. Universist Church
http://universist.org/

This is the long-awaited dawn of postmodern religion - religion in the first person. We're about living creatively, free from universal truths. Your unique and evolving understanding of life is the dynamic force we call Universism. You are the morning of your future self, and it's time to rise.

. . .

Universists apply personal reason and experience to the fundamental questions of human existence, derive inspiration from the natural uncertainty of the human state, and deny the validity of shared revelation, faith and dogma. Does this definition fit you? If so, please accept our invitation to take part in the Universist Movement, one of the 21st century's fastest growing progressive movements.

Universism is the world's first truly "faithless religion." Until now, religions have advocated truths that are universal and permanent. Universists know that our own unique perceptions are the only truths, apply to ourselves alone, and will change as we change. Reaching to the heart of humanity's religious impulse, we have uncovered not faith, but mystery. Not complacency, but awe. We have found an essential element of the human experience in harmony with reason - not in spite of it. Universists know the fuller our understanding of the universe, the greater our appreciation for a reality beyond our imagination. We celebrate individual reason, inspiration in nature, and hope in progress.

Universism is not what you believe, it's how you believe! The future of religion is what you make it.

16. Sorry,
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 09:29 AM by PCIntern
if it doesn't pass Tony the Idiot's Smell Test, it doesn't count as a religion. In fact, if Mohammed were around today, he'd negate that religion as well - "But do you believe in Jesus as the Christ - 'cause that's good stuff!" If you hate Wolf's cadences, you'll despise Tony's arrant idiocy, anti-intellectualism, and sheer stupidity. It is just unbelievable that he has a major role...poor Betty Nguyen, who isn't bad by cable news standards, is clearly embarassed to be on the set with him

She's pretty too...but I'll get slammed if I get into that.

15. If he was Universalist, he belongs to one of the oldest sects in the US
I'm sure there are many people who know more about this than me (my grandmother, long dead, was a memberof the Unitarian-Universalist Church).

As far as I know, the Universalists don't subscribe to any one creed. Some "believe in" Christ, meaning believe that Christ is God, some don't, but focus on his teachings and his life.

As for your other point about CNN, don't know who Tony is but I'll take your word that he's a moron as that's the type they seem to prefer.

Universalist.

Though there are similarities . . .

Very interesting - I'm reading through their website now. www.universist.com

said that the religion deemed as Universist was called COLLEGE (meaning College Bullshitting Sessions) when he was a kid.

I wonder what he did in college...the mind wanders in fantasy...
