Frist says he's OK with ports deal(spineless moron)
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said yesterday he's gained a "pretty good" comfort level with the deal under which a United Arab Emirates company would take over operations at six U.S. ports. However, Frist said he wants to "take a pause" for 30 to 45 days so other members of Congress can be briefed.

Speaking to reporters before headlining a GOP fundraiser in Lexington, Frist, a Tennessee Republican, said his initial trepidation about the deal has waned in recent days as his staff received intelligence briefings. Frist said Republicans trust the Bush administration and think its determination that the port deal doesn't threaten American security is "in all likelihood absolutely the right one."

"But that same comfort level, the American people do not have," Frist said. "I have 99 other United States senators who need that opportunity to ask those questions, to have that same comfort level, and the House of Representatives, I'm sure, is going to want to do the same."

4. This fits with my theory that its related to the invasion of Iran.
since Frist "found out" something new that increases his comfort level, I can't imagine any new piece of information that would do that other than revealing it as a quid pro quo to the invasion.

I'm open to other suggestions though: what ONE piece of SECRET information would turn someone from outrage to comfort?

5. This was predictable---Frist caving to 'save face' for Bush (and taking
the majority in Congress with him).

6. DP now dictating the terms?
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 09:10 AM by cal04
A DP World executive said the company would agree to tougher security restrictions to win congressional support only if the same restrictions applied to all U.S. port operators. The company earlier had struck a more conciliatory stance, saying it would do whatever Bush asked to salvage the agreement.

"Security is everybody's business," senior vice president Michael Moore told The Associated Press. "We're going to have a very open mind to legitimate concerns. But anything we can do, any way to improve security, should apply to everybody equally."

9. Oh, I SO hope they push this deal through, and the closer to
November the better. Of course, in order for this to matter the Democrats would have to find a spine and some balls but even that can happen when the stakes are high enough. Look at Hillary and Chuck, for example.

The GOPukes are going to have to support turning our ports over to our "terrist" enemies to keep the $$$ flowing into the BFCE coffers. Their greed (or cowardice) will make them "soft on terra" and we will be able to hit them on that over and over and over again.

Except for Jomemtum, of course. We can't attack him because he's a Dem.

11. But that's not the dreaded & evil FLIP-FLOPPING!
Democrats get attacked, crucified and swiftboated for "flip-flopping" but when Frist or another high ranking Republican does it I don't hear any chorus of complaints (even from the Democrats -- who SHOULD stoop to the Republican's low level and throw that crap right back in the Republican's faces).
