Russian Relations Under Scrutiny - Cheney's insatiable paranoia...
'Vice President Cheney has grown increasingly skeptical of Russian President Vladimir Putin and shown interest in toughening the administration's approach. He summoned Russia scholars to his office last month to solicit input and asked national intelligence director John D. Negroponte to provide further information about Putin's trajectory, the sources said.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has sought to balance worries over Russian democracy with a pragmatic partnership on mutual issues such as Iran's nuclear program, responded by calling her own meeting with outside advisers a week ago. Some involved in the administration deliberations saw the move as an attempt to counter Cheney.'

the madness of Dick Cheney & the disassociation of G.W. Bush must be brought to an end

7. i think that cheney is lunging through what his mind perceives to be...

a 'malthusian nightmare' http://desip.igc.org/malthus there are no more ideas of any import that will usher humanity into the foreseeable, bank-able future (well there are, it's just that their portfolios are not configured in those ways), resources growing smaller & smaller, population bursting, and then two things,

1. he will not live long enough to personally benefit form the transition, and,

2. he is not smart enough to stop all his tomfoolery and assist in the midwifing of humanity up onto the next level, and then into the future that will be. as such...

Dick Cheney can only expose himself again & again, as thee most pale, exhausted, depleted, and predictable american politician on the landscape. i do not even buy all the hoopla about just how much power he really has. i think i is ALL bluster and the sheer willingness to be able to slap someone else's grandma down in public. a sad, old, one trick jackass doing the only thing he knows how to do...before he dies

call me pollyanna if you must, but that is not power imo. that is just plain mean.

At least, on American soil.

8. she being a russian scholar, you have indeed a point to be made...
it may be a hope of mine, but i still hope-it-that; she understands now with a quickness just what chaos befalls a nation when Dick Cheney is not made to heel

6. ...further information about Putin's trajectory
hmmmm. To what? Spit? Fire nuc-u-lar weapons? Urinate?

"You have this tension between the Putin lovers and the democracy lovers in the administration. And the president himself and Condi seem to be balancing between these forces."

hmmm.

You either support/tolerate Putin or you support "democracy." Democracy now stands for something entirely different than it used to.
