1. Russia would do the uranium enrichment so there would be no suspicion

that Iran would be converting it for a bomb, thus, defusing the manufactured 'crisis' and causing Bush to back off.

but you're right, here they go . . .

Bush regime begins to demonize Russia to throw them off of helping Iran

3. This deal has been on and off for a year or more.
If one assumes that the Iranians are indeed building a nuclear deterrent (and why wouldn't they?), then this is just a stall tactic, and a good one. It derails our simple path to getting the next war on. We will have to either wait for the Iranians to disengage from the russian deal and restart the nuclear scare campaign, or find some other bullshit excuse for attacking them, like oh I don't know, some sort of border incident.

Chinese President Sends Message To Iran

25 February 2006 -- Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Lu Guozeng, who is in Tehran for talks with the Iranian leadership, today delivered a letter from Chinese President Hu Jintao to the Iranian president.

Lu is in Tehran for talks with his Iranian counterpart on the future of Iran's nuclear program. The letter was delivered to President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.

His visit coincides with that of Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency chief Sergei Kiriyenko, who says Russia's offer to enrich Iranian uranium on Russian territory is still on the table.

6. I don't think Iran is too worried about customers for its oil.
That shoe is on the other foot. Anyhow it is just my observation that the Iranians appear to be following the North Korean model: a sort of two steps forward one step back approach, which allows them to keep us off balance enough while they continue to go after what they want, which I once again assume to be a deterrent to our military capabilities.

7. yeah, that's been the game so far.
right down to Iran using the prospect of having a bomb as a means to leverage concessions and favors from the EU for the country.

2. Russia also loves money and like the current administration will do almost
anything to exploit a given situation to make some.

4. It means Halliburton may soon be issuing lower profit projections.
As evidenced by the "bigtree" link Bushco is looking to expand the "Axis of Evil" to further its own interests. I think that Bushco has been out-maneuvered in the Iranian situation and for no better reason than their ineptness caught up with them.

It must be particularly upsetting to Bushco to realize that Russia will be looked upon favorably in Iran, yet just across the border in Iraq, a country we 'liberated' at great expense, they can't wait to see the U.S. leave.

So much for Pax Americana.
