Bush's Handling Of Crises Is NEITHER Pre-9/11 Nor Post-9/11 ====>

Bush Administration IGNORED 9/11 Warnings

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/013106J.shtml

Jan. 31, 2006 — The fact of the matter is that the Bush administration ignored hard evidence from its top intelligence officials between April and September of 2001 about an impending attack by al-Qaeda on US soil. There's no chance that the National Security Agency's domestic wiretapping initiative would have saved the lives of 3,000 American citizens if an intelligence memo titled "Bin Laden determined to attack inside US" that President Bush received a month before 9/11 couldn't move Bush to take such threats seriously.

Documents Show Katrina Warnings IGNORED

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=1537584

Jan. 24, 2006 — Documents released today by Congress show that two days before Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, the White House received detailed damage forecasts from Homeland Security officials predicting that the city's levees might be overtopped or breached.

Yet in the days after the storm struck on Aug. 29, federal officials, including President Bush, said the levee breaches could not have been foreseen.

Bush IGNORED Warnings Of Iraqi Civil War

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/02/23/iraq-civil-war

February 23, 2006 — With yesterday’s bombing of one of Shiite Islam’s holiest shrines in Iraq, the common consensus appears to be that Iraq is now on the verge of a full-blown civil war. Such an outcome has been predicted for years, and the Bush administration has done little to shift its strategy to address the persisting threat.

In September 2004, intelligence officials at the CIA warned that Iraq could dissolve into civil war over the next 18 months (18 months have now elapsed since the report was revealed). “White House spokesman Scott McClellan, and other White House spokesmen, called the intelligence assessment the work of ‘pessimists and naysayers’ after its outlines were disclosed by the New York Times. President Bush called the assessment a guess, which drew the consternation of many intelligence officials.”

The CIA wasn’t the only one warning the administration of a possible civil war. In fact, lawmakers and experts from across the spectrum have repeatedly tried to call the administration’s attention to the issue.

5. More 8/6 Thinking By Bush ... i.e., More Examples Of His Ignoring Warnings
Saudi foreign minister says Bush IGNORED Iraq warning

http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_id=10&categ_id=2&article_id=18767

September 24, 2005 — Saudi Arabia's foreign minister says the Bush administration did not heed Saudi warnings about occupying Iraq, and he doesn't believe a new constitution and elections will solve the emerging nation's problems.

"It is frustrating to see something that is clearly going to happen, and you are not listened to by a friend, and soon harm comes out of it," Saud said. "It hurts."

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/1031-07.htm

October 31, 2003 — California officials accused the Bush administration Thursday of ignoring urgent pleas months ago for emergency help to remove beetle-infested trees that experts warned could fuel a catastrophic Southern California fire.

Bush IGNORED warnings in 2002 about mine safety

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/1/4/212915/2616

January 04, 2006 — But that isn't the point of this story in 2002 Bush was warned about mine safety and he choice to ignore the warnings just like 9/11.

House Democrats put out a fact sheet questioning why Bush made so many cuts to mine safety programs. Here is the fact sheet they put out.

6. Pre 9/11 is such nonsense for many reasons
Among the many flaws in this argument, the world didn't really change in 2001. Terrorism was a problem before then. Europe was aware of it. Many Americans were aware of it. For example, John Kerry wrote his book on terrorism well before 9/11. Clinton recognized the problem, but Bush ignored his recommendations when he took office. Democrats didn't have to change their mind set after 9/11 because they were already aware of the problem.

Republicans didn't really change their mind set post 9/11. They just played politics with it, rather than really doing enough to defend the United States against terrorism.

9. Pat Buchanan Agrees
Bush IGNORES his failures

http://pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/opinion/columnists/guests/s_420307.html

February 4, 2006 -- But rather than defend the fruits of his policy, Bush has chosen to caricature critics who warned him against interventionism.

Having plunged us into an unnecessary war, Bush now confronts the real possibility of strategic defeat and a failed presidency. His victory in Iraq, like the wars of Wilson and FDR, has turned to ashes in our mouths. And like Truman's war in Korea and Kennedy's war in Vietnam, Bush's war has left America divided and her people regretting he ever led us in.

But unlike the world wars, Korea and Vietnam, Bush cannot claim the enemy attacked us and we had no choice. Iraq is Bush's war. Isolationists had nothing to do with it.

13. Neither -- It's FAHRENHEIT 9/11!
There's more than enough for a sequel now. Clueless, arrogant, playing to all sides and alienating just about everyone on the process, and intractably beholden to big money interests.

17. IGNORANT
The most obvious expression of Bush's choice of ignorance is that, at the age of 57, he knows nothing about policy or history. After years of working as his dad's spear-chucker in Washington, he didn't understand the difference between Medicare and Medicaid, the second- and third-largest federal programs. Well into his plans for invading Iraq, Bush still couldn't get down the distinction between Sunni and Shiite Muslims, the key religious divide in a country he was about to occupy. Though he sometimes carries books for show, he either does not read them or doesn't absorb anything from them. Bush's ignorance is so transparent that many of his intimates do not bother to dispute it even in public. Consider the testimony of several who know him well:

Laura Bush, spouse: "George is not an overly introspective person. He has good instincts, and he goes with them. He doesn't need to evaluate and reevaluate a decision. He doesn't try to overthink. He likes action."

Paul O'Neill, former treasury secretary: "The only way I can describe it is that, well, the President is like a blind man in a roomful of deaf people. There is no discernible connection."

18. I want Laura to write me a job reference!
If she can gloss over her husband's ignorance, short attention span, and poor impulse control (all features which are bad in any job, let alone the President) -- I'm sure she would do wonders for me (e.g. took more than 5 years to complete a postgraduate degree = "thorough and patient").

19. Coast Guard W-A-R-N-E-D of Port Gaps
WASHINGTON — Citing broad gaps in U.S. intelligence, the Coast Guard cautioned the Bush administration weeks ago that it could not determine whether a United Arab Emirates-based company seeking a stake in some U.S. port operations might support terrorist operations.

"There are many intelligence gaps, concerning the potential for DPW or P&O assets to support terrorist operations, that precludes an overall threat assessment" of the potential merger, the unclassified Coast Guard intelligence assessment said.

"The breadth of the intelligence gaps also infer potential unknown threats against a large number of potential vulnerabilities," the assessment said.

"This report suggests there were significant and troubling intelligence gaps," said Collins, R-Maine. "That language is very troubling to me."

21. Tape: Bush, Chertoff Warned Before Katrina
Bush IGNORED Warning About Levees

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060301/ap_on_go_pr_wh/katrina_video

March 1, 2006 - In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, risk lives in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage of the briefings.

Bush didn't ask a single question during the final government-wide briefing the day before Katrina struck on Aug. 29 but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."
