What did Bush say after 9/11 re: countries that support terrorism?
Something to the effect that any country that has ties to terrorists will be considered the enemy also. I can't find the reference.

I find it hypocritical that Bush would support the UAE when they have supported the 9/11 terrorists and are one of only three countries that recognize the Taliban.

2. I know the quote you mean, but don't have it handy
I think Randy kept playing it over and over the other day on her show.

By his definition, doesn't the US itself also fall into that category? The so-calld hijackers lived in the US, presumably used the US infrastructure, used the banks, used the flight schools for pete's sake... that seems very similar to the levels of support by other countries, such as UAE, no? (not an apologist for the UAE port deal, just sayin)

Also, what about Tim McVey?? The US created it's own terrorist, didn't it? I wonder why the Pat Act and all those other draconian efforts weren't enacted post-Oklahoma city?

It's all in perspective and agenda

If it crossed his lips, it must have been a lie.

4. "You're either wit' us or agin' us" - 2 early quotes
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 02:48 PM by ColonelTom
I'm sure there are more, but here are two of the big ones:

September 20, 2001:
"{W}e will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

October 7, 2001:
"Every nation has a choice to make. In this conflict, there is no neutral ground. If any government sponsors the outlaws and killers of innocents, they have become outlaws and murderers, themselves. And they will take that lonely path at their own peril."

7. Found it-in his Mission Accomplished speech
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/05/20030501-15.html

Our war against terror is proceeding according to principles that I have made clear to all: Any person involved in committing or planning terrorist attacks against the American people becomes an enemy of this country, and a target of American justice. (Applause.)

Any person, organization, or government that supports, protects, or harbors terrorists is complicit in the murder of the innocent, and equally guilty of terrorist crimes.

Any outlaw regime that has ties to terrorist groups and seeks or possesses weapons of mass destruction is a grave danger to the civilized world -- and will be confronted. (Applause.)

8. the government of the UAE didn't support 9-11
neither, do I think, is it shown they are supporting or purposely protecting terrorists. They don't recognize the Taliban as the government anymore.

9. But they were friendly with Osama bin Laden
According to the 9/11 Commission Report, the CIA had to pass up an opportunity to kill bin Laden in 1999 because he was meeting with officials from the United Arab Emirates.

ThinkProgress has a good summary here.

The UAE may not have supported 9/11, but their maintaining ties with bin Laden in 1999 - long after he'd been at the top of the list of terrorist threats - certainly qualifies as "supporting terrorists." Or are you saying that the slate is wiped clean by their alleged post-9/11 support of U.S. anti-terror efforts?

At the very least, that's an issue which Congress should have been permitted to study and address before the sale went forward.

10. But they did.
And two of the 9/11 hijackers were from the UAE. And the money sent to the hijackers came through there.

Ample justification for a thorough review of the deal.
