3. couldn't care, I just want them to read the piece of paper in front of

them so I can know if someone escaped from prison near me, if the roads are going to be closed, or if it's going to be raining or not. I don't care what their names are, although they seem to feel they have to tell me that at least every third breath.

5. Yes, and therein lies the problem ...
They are human beings with families to feed, with career ambitions, with natural biases.

The most pressing problem with current journalists, IMHO, is the constant choice between toeing the line with their corporate bosses, or losing their job and any chance of career mobility.

As my (too brilliant) husband said recently, "The journalist who is on MY side is the journalist who is on NOBODY'S side."

The present day crop of 'reporters', especially those on TV, is based on physical on-screen appeal more often than intelligence and commitment to the job, and those who want to tell the truth, at all costs, are usually on the unemployment line within a month of saying something their corporate masters disagree with.

The REAL news media these days is right here, on the internetz - where no one is beholding to a corporate sponsor, or an editor who insists on every news story being slanted in favour of his/her own political leanings.

last time I checked.

7. I know plenty of PRE$$TITUTE$, but few journalists...
Robert Fisk is a journalist.

Amy Goodman is a journalist.

Keith Oberman is a journalist.

Running out of others I can class as journalists...

8. Really, let me help you out
Sy Hersh, Paul Krugman, Lewis Lapham, Nicholas Kristof, Ian Fisher, EJ Dionne, Edward Wong, David Gregory, Barbara Slavin, Ted Koppel (yes, Ted Koppel, etc. That's just off the top of my head. There are dozens more. This bullshit about there not being any decent journalists is just ignorant.

10. A couple of them are.
Helen Thomas comes to mind. I'm sure there are others too, I just can't think of anymore at the moment.

11. I have a BA in journalism. This isn't your best effort.
Have they been pictures in cowardice under this Administration? Yes. Do we have a chance in hell of keeping this Republic without them? No. Your problem here is not criticism of journalists. It's that "are they human beings" remark. Careful about being so cavalier.

12. Is that really the question?
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 07:44 PM by Breeze54
I think the real question is; "Are they honest?"
and if so; "How honest are they?"

I mean they sure have been lapdogs to the bush adminions;haven't they?
Parroting all the bush lies? Cheering the invasion and war in Iraq?
Even this week; the 'spin' started immediately about the UAE and then
all I heard on "The Nightly News" et all;
was what a GREAT idea it was!!! Ra ra!!!

I want THE NEWS and weather!!!
Not some dumb moron talking heads OPINION!!

They sometimes think they are more important then the actual actors,
and the constant 'gossipy' news is a case in point!
They were all over the "Martha/Donald" dispute like stink on shit...
every little tidbit is analyzed to the death!
They lose credibility doing this!
It isn't "news"; it's now 'info-tainment' at other's expense.
I'm thankful for the mute and off button on my remote!

ok...rant over...sort of...
To answer your question.
Are they human?
Yes.
Is Rupert Murdoch?
The jury is still out!

-----------

Geez that felt good!!

13. Most of them yes, but they don't have to be.
It is more important they live up to their designation as The Fourth Estate. They are the ones that keep the Clergy (i.e. Fundies), Nobility (i.e. Bush) and the masses in check.
