Banning Republican Adoption
Taken from the wonderful TPM Cafe:

By Nathan Newman

Ohio State Senator Robert Hagen has introduced a bill to bar Republicans from adopting children or becoming foster parents, since as he argues:

"Credible research" shows that adopted children raised in Republican households are more at risk for developing "emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, and alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities"

restricting the ability of Republicans to be parents probably would reduce youth violence

5. Would probably help us with our overpopulation problem too...
I'm betting statistics would show that Republicans average having more kids per family than Democrats do (with their "go out and multiply" credos they get from their churches). We've already seen that statistics show more teenage and unwanted pregnancies happen in the bible belt south anyway.

7. I was adopted by an upper-income Republican family...
...when I was just a baby.

Despite the years of sexual, emotional and psychological abuse and torture--I had a pretty happy childhood.

Where was this legislation a few decades ago?

:)

22. No problem...
...after six years of therapy, I'm glad I can finally laugh too.

I spent the first half of my life traumatized, then after seeking therapy I did the sadness
and rage thing. After all was said and done, I realized, "Oh my gosh, those people were stark raving lunatics!!"

My brother says I should write a "Dysfunctional Families for Dummies" book. I just might have to do that. The bottom line is that Dysfunctional families are really hysterical. Yes, they're tragic, evil, sick and awful. However, it's important to step back and see the absurdity in all of it--after you've done some healing. It helps if you can distance yourself from the bad guys--by making fun of them--which demonstrates that you've truly separated yourself from their sickness.

And that's what healing is all about, in my opinion...re-claiming your own soul and extricating yourself from the cycle of abuse.

Eddie Murphy does great stand-up on his alcoholic father--coming home drunk and hurling high-heeled shoes at him.

Glad I could make ya smile!

:)

You had a pretty happy childhood? OMG. I was raised by catholic democrats and we had our own problems, maybe not as bad as you had it but there was always sibling fighting and strict religious upbringing. Look at the Kennedy's, they have their own problems. Look at how they got their money. Even though many people I know that are repubs tend to be regressive anal a-holes, doesn't mean they are total wackos. I glad you were able to overcome your childhood obstacles.

13. For Robert Hagen
Across the Field"

Fight the team across the field
Show them Ohio's here,
Set the earth reverberating
With a mighty cheer,
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Hit them hard and see how they fall,
Never let that team get the ball,
Hail, hail, the gang's all here,
So let's win that old conference now.

"Buckeye Battle Cry"

In old Ohio there's a team
That's known throughout the land
Eleven warriors brave and bold,
Whose fame will ever stand.
And when the ball goes over,
Our cheers will reach the sky,
Ohio Field will hear again
The Buckeye Battle Cry!

Drive, Drive on down the field,
Men of the scarlet and gray;
Don't let them through that line,
We've got to win this game today,
COME ON OHIO!
Smash through to victory,
We cheer you as we go!
Our honor defend we will fight to the end
for OHIO!

14. How can they get past the homestudy?
As an adoptive mom myself, I can't even imagine how they can possibly pass the homestudy. We had to show ourselves to be financially responsible, mentally sound, and without criminal backgrounds. We had to promise to educate our children. We had to show how we planned to house and feed them. Republicans? I think not!

No, they are definitely not fit to adopt!

15. This is the sort of creative response....
that the Democrats need to be making to all the idiocy being proposed by Republicans doing the bidding of a small minority of Religious Fanatics trying to impose their values on everyone else.

On another post in "Greatest", someone proposed trying to get life insurance for a fetus. Yes! If life begins at conception, than take it all the way and force the issue!

Jesus told me that we should confiscate the wealth of these fatcats. It's for their own good as no sooner could a rich man enter heaven than a camel could thread the eye of a needle.

Jains can outlaw the meat industry. Animists can outlaw industry. The possibilities are endless.

17. One of the respondents on that site wrote:
"Call me thin-skinned, but as the parent of a daughter adopted internationally, I'm not amused by any discussion of adoption that suggests, even tongue in cheek, that one group of persons is more or less fit to parent."

That's too bad, because Senator Robert Hagen's move is absolutely brilliant, and shines a light on the destructive absurdity of Right Wing organizations such as the mis-named Focus On The Family. It's a headline grabber, and rightly so.

Hagen's timing is perfect. America is good and fed up with the nut-jobber, irrational and emotionally troubled Right Wing. Expect many more statements such as Hagen's in the future as America (including Republicans!) strikes back at the crazies whom they've politely tolerated for two decades too long.

19. Republicans should be rounded up...
and be forced to wear armbands with elephants on them. Maybe we could put them into camp, where we could keep a close eye on them.

***Two wrongs don't make a right, and sarcasm should not go as far as real legislation. Don't bring us down to their level.

25. Humor elevates, it does not "bring us down".
Fear is the thing that would bring us to "their" level.

Well, that and both adoring and elevating the criminally insane to positions of power.

27. Hagen is way better at this than you are.
Full-out passive-aggression ain't humor.

Some are indeed humor impaired. Is it by choice, is it congenital? Who knows?

Hagen will NEVER, EVER, EVER agree to pass such a bill.

The Right Wing would very much like to deny me that right. We know they are serious because the Right-tards for many decades have beaten and killed homosexuals for sport.

Don't you see it ?? This wasn't an attack on adoption - far from it. Exposing the rank hypocrisy of Republicans is now almost a blood sport - it's like shooting fish in a barrel - they make it so easy.
