Who the hell would want to be the next president?
I know, I know. Kerry, Clinton, Gore, Edwards, et al. But in my mind, Bush has fucked so many aspects of our society up, as well as our standing in the rest of the world, and I fear we are on the brink of world war III, and total economic collapse, that I cannot imagine, other than just for the sake of being hungry for power, anyone wanting to follow this rogue elephant and trying to scoop up his droppings.

1. Good question!
That's one thing I've been wonder about with the GOP falling flat on it's face lately. They might just decided to turn it over to Democrats with such a HUGE mess, then blame them for failing to turn it all around within two/four years. (depending on election looking at)

8. great question! Cleaning up after the GOP will be fruitless
one, the damage will be inredibly severe, and two, the GOP would love to go back to their stab-in-the-back and obstructionist ways.

10. It isn't hard, if you approach the presidency like Bush.
Diplomacy? Who needs it, right? The environment? Who needs it, right? The economy? Take care of me and my buddies and fuck the rest of you, right?

So don't despair!

5. Add to that the fact
that two minutes after a democrat is inaugurated as President in January 2009, the right wing hate machine will be cranked up blaming him for everything that has happened and wondering why everything has not been fixed yet, and a thorough scrubbing of his/her personal life will be on faux 24/7.

I ask the same question about Mayor of New Orleans but there is at least ten people who have declared their intentions to seek that office this year.

11. You forgot to mention......
That ten minutes after a democrat takes office, a movement will be afoot to appoint a special prosecutor and begin impeachment proceedings. It won't matter what for. They'll conjure up something.

Unless the democrats take the House and Senate back and can be there for that president like with FDR.

appointments throughout the bureaucracy that will make his/her life difficult at every opportunity. Not to mention all the rules changes that have weakened good laws and agencies meant to help or protect us.

7. You make a very good point...
Assuming they can keep the whole shabang from collasping before 11/08, it wouldn't be very long after that before it does, and it falls down HARD.

We're *rapidly* heading toward become another Bannana republic (and I don't mean the clothing store).

Personally, I honestly wouldn't know where to begin to start picking up the (big) pieces. (I don't mean restore honesty, etc).

Sometimes I wonder if we're not indeed heading toward a WW3...

Whoever gets the Democratic nod is REALLY going to have a b*tch of a time with changing everything back to pre * mode. Ugh.....going to be a very hard sell.

Doesn't matter who wins; so much is fucked up that whoever is next will be considered a bad president.

27. Maybe not
Anything can happen. I think the only way that the next president will fuck up is if they have a republican controlled House and Senate. If he/she has a democratic control than it'll be smooth sailing (if he/she is a democrat).

19. Aye, there's the rub.
The next administration, and probably at least the next three, will face a possibly insurmountable mess. The whole system has been purposely wrecked, I say again, The Whole Entire Government. Major problem in every aspect and they will have no resources to fix it with.
I've tried to get some response as to what can be done, but so far, nothing. I'm not sure if people aren't aware of just how much damage they've done, or if they don't want to think about it, but it will take a solid majority in both Houses and the Presidency to even get started. It will also take, and here's where I think it falls apart, an active, informed citizenry to demand the support of their representatives.

20. I Can't Help But Wonder
if we should ensure the congress is Dem and let a Repug be President. Wouldn't that be fun? Seriously, I don't know how this mess can be cleaned up and if a Dem wins, without a Dem congress, the uphill battle will be so great.

22. I disagree...
There's PLENTY left to steal.

The rich still pay SOME Taxes.
The "coddled" middle Class still has too much.
Too much Government land is not being exploited.
Too many Civil liberties still floating around.

33. They screw it up , we have to fix it. Circular politics of the US
Sometimes I feel like the country would benefit, long run by going into some kind of economic/social disaster. They never learn. Can you imagine if a repub won another two terms? Do you think that might educate the people?

35. Ambition for power goes with politics.
Unfortunately, it usually requires abandonment of incidentals like ethics and honesty to be "successful".
