Latest on the UAE Ports--Bush attempting 45 day delay to avoid showdown.

Second ports review aims to avoid showdown
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration will conduct a highly unusual second review of potential security risks in a business deal it previously approved for a United Arab Emirates-based company to take over significant operations at six leading U.S. ports.

The new, 45-day investigation is aimed at averting an impending political showdown as Congress returned to Washington on Monday from a week long break.

Dubai Firm to Seek Second Review of US Port Deal
The state-owned United Arab Emirates company that is set to take over management operations at six U.S. ports is requesting a 45-day review from the U.S. panel that approves foreign investment in the United States. The move is unlikely to stem debate about security concerns, if the UAE takes over the U.S. ports' management.

White House grateful for UAE port Delay
Some senators, led by Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said they still intend to introduce legislation Monday to block the deal pending a 45-day review and to require congressional approval before DP World can conduct business in the United States. Under existing law, Congress effectively has no role considering deals.

Please, Americans everywhere, DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN. The hope by the White House, is that by delaying this, they can avoid a showdown, and give the republican majority a chance to come around. Remember that Bush already has veto power over this, and will use it no matter what, whether it is now, or in a couple of months. Force his hand now, while everyone see's it for the big steaming pile that it really is.

This White House gang of criminals is trying to circumvent the process, and push this through in the middle of the night, like did with the patriot act.

If ever there was a time for all of us, liberal, and conservative, to come together, and make our collective voices be heard, this is it. Bang your congresspeople, your senators, write letters, scream, shout, show these SOB's that this is rotten, and stinks to high heaven.

1. Do not allow them to take another 45 days to review the request?
I'm note sure I understand your purpose? Don't you want to delay approval so that there is time to review these security concerns?

The hope is that it will get buried, and passed through by a republican majority that is slowly starting to come around to passing it.

Remember that Shrub also say's he will veto it anyway it goes.

6. OK.
I don't know what the connection is there. Why is it important to remember that Bush will veto it "anyway it goes."?

What is it going to get buried by?

Is there a difference between good government and good theater?

2. i agree...but i have lost faith in congress and believe that a grass roots
movement needs to occur...at that point maybe congress will forget their partisan talking points and allegiance and figure out that it is really by the people and for the people...in the meantime..i feel like its pissing in the wind...

4. Sneak through the Patriot Act?
No need for sneaking at all on this one.

97 out of 100 of our Senators are ready willing and able to sell the people they represent down the police state river on this one.

They're gonna renew the Pat Act in mere days.

And nobody but the ACLU gives two shits!

I wish I was one of Bush Families Arab Royalty buddies. Then I'd have more rights in America than America's own citizens after this Wednesday!
