5. people don't connect taxes with services. |
|
when they do, they don't follow the "we must lower taxes at all costs" line.

13. the correct usage is "fewer services" |
|
as a general rule, use 'fewer' when talking about things you can count (services, people, apples, elephants) and 'less' when talking about things you measure (water, money)

Which we, and the rest of the world, are being "serviced" (as in the way a bull services a cow) by constantly.

6. Lower federal taxes=Higher state/local taxes |
|
Especially property taxes....they're getting absurd in some localities.
And then there's "pay to play" taxes...want yer kids to ride the bus to school? Pony up, or they'll be driving those Nike's on their feet! After school sports, music lessons or band? Ka-CHING!!! Can you afford to buy the older kid a car to drive to school? Pay the parking fee!
Back in my day, that stuff was included...no more.

8. It isn't just that stuff |
|
Here in SC we have book fees, workbooks that have to be purchased and we're expected to contribute to the classroom's supplies as well. When it comes to actually graduating...not unless you can pay the $250 'graduation' fee on top of the cap and gown fee, diploma fee, pictures, class ring, invitations to the graduation, etc.
That's for your 'free' education.

I dunno if it was published or not as I don't read any paper that prints Ann Coulter and Mark Belling's hate.
---------
Low tax, no tax attitudes hurt everyone. Taking aim at taxes is a cop-out in politics and shows a real lack of courage, innovation and creative thought.
The constant barrage of tax reform, tax freeze and tax cuts is getting old. As we sit and watch our energy costs rise, roads crumble, schools cut more and more programs because of budget shortfalls it is simply irresponsible to continue to promote emotional tax freezes and cuts for the sake of a vote, at a time when real progress is needed.
Waukesha citizens will not be bribed by politicians seeking votes in exchange for tax cuts.
Our society is changing rapidly and we all have to make sacrifices to move and grow into the future.
Progress is not built on tax cuts, budget cutting and government slashing. It is built on innovation and sacrifice by a public committed to being producers not consumers. That public is led by people with a honest vision for the future.
Our city has real challenges facing us in the future. We have water issues, our roads are getting more and more fatigued, the development circling around our city is nearly out of control, energy prices will continue to rise.
We need to facilitate new local business opportunities in a rapidly changing global economy. We need to develop local incentives to establish local infrastructure for renewable energy resources like E85 ethanol, bio-diesel, bio-mass heating fuels, solar and wind power. Even the Fox river could spin a few electric turbines.
We need to up the "green" standards for new construction and offer incentives for retrofitting existing homes with green technology. We need to reserve more green space to protect the already threatened Fox river watershed.
These are not partisan issues this is reality because the day will come when our existing sources of energy will be many times more expensive than they are now.
We need to establish and promote alternative forms of transportation by creating and planning for bike and scooter lanes and pedestrian traffic in new and existing development. Sidewalks and bike lanes with local small scale retail zoning. Walk or ride a bike to the corner store, what a concept!
We will all be glad our bus system is in place the day gasoline rises to $5 a gallon.
We need leadership that is going to focus on the positive and the self sacrificing attitudes of service and progress, not constriction, budget cuts and government gutting. We need to fine tune the unrestricted growth of our suburbs with quality sustainable community planning.
Kudos to Mayor Lombardi for having the vision to set Waukesha on path to progress and growth.
Thanks too for the courage of our vibrant downtown businesses for they are growing our local economy one customer at a time.
More thanks to our established manufacturing industries as they find new ways to compete in the global market. In no way should we slow any of this progress down. I challenge our local industries to become more committed to Waukesha by supporting progress and growth by being dedicated responsible corporate citizens and continue to invest in our community.
For Waukesha, now is not the time to turn inward and regress by gutting our government. Too much is at stake for the future of our city and our families to reward the inherent selfishness in all of us with irresponsible emotional tax cuts and government slashing.
We all need to emerge from the comfort of our living rooms and adopt a pioneering spirit as the first citizens of Waukesha did so many years ago.
See it and build it, our city of the future.

9. I've often wondered how people can believe that |
|
you can do more with less money. They don't seem to even consider their own finances and what they'd have to give up if they took a pay cut.
Same thing.

10. You forgot the caveat... |

there are people who believe they should have less taxes by cutting services to other people...but don't touch the services they receive.
