As usual, we had a good response to our call for moderators, and it was extremely difficult to narrow the field down. We had to turn down a number of very qualified people. We hope that everyone who applied to serve as a moderator this turn will consider applying again next term.

A moderator switch is always a little chaotic, so I want to apologize in advance for any problems that may arise over the next few days. Thank you for your understanding.

Checking out my new dialup.

Get a glorious 19.2Kbit. Ran new, good cable from the TNI straight to the dialup modem (one line), checked out a bunch of access numbers, still get crap. Must be a noise problem upstream. Well, maybe keeping a single, straight line approach will keep the DSL within tolerances -- but I ain't counting on it.

But it seems to work more or less (dialup sux) -- and I knew it couldn't have been my old work.

It's my first day and I want to start a new thread but it won't let me even though I replied to several threads first. It keeps giving me that same message. How many do I have to respond to till I can start a new thread?

New members are restricted from starting new discussion topics. We require you to first post responses to a few existing discussion threads before you are given the privilege to do so. We wish we did not have to enforce this rule, but we have found it very helpful to keep disruptors off of our message board. Please do not ask what the minimum number is; we won't tell you, and it's not very high. New members are similarly restricted from using the private messaging function or recommending topics for the Greatest Page.

So be patient. As for starting your own... sometimes you can just take a ride on someone else's thread. That's OK, we are used to see thread meandering into many directions not planned by the original poster.

Find a thread with a similar topic and respond by yes.. and, by the way..
