Indie Rockers refuse big money from Hummer for use of their song
Good for them!! I hope they make MORE money BECAUSE they turned this deal down. :toast:

The Thermals, a rambunctious rock band from Portland, Ore., were en route between gigs last year when they got a phone call from their label, Sub Pop. Hummer wanted to pay them $50,000 for the right to use their song "It's Trivia" in a commercial.

"We figured it was almost like giving music to the Army, or Exxon," guitarist Philip Manley said.

They said no.

Trans Am, an electronic rock band from
Washington, spurned $180,000 in ad money
from Hummer.

4. Wow. Show of hands from any former/current musicians
Would you have found a way to rationalize accepting a windfall like that?

I'm pretty sure I would've.

7. People from Portland and Oregon in general are always ahead of the
times as far as the rest of America is concerned on progressive movements and ideas.

13. The Thermals, TransAm and LiLiPUT turned them down

So at least three DIFFERENT bands turned them down in the top of the article. The bottom of the article makes it sound like dozens and dozens of indie bands have turned Hummer down.

Bwa ha ha ha ha !

14. The real question is...
if they weren't an indie group, would they have even had the say over whether or not it was used?
I'd think a bigger label would have probably just sold the song and then told the band about it afterwards.
