Is Apple buying Disney?
Now Disney has bought Pixar and Apple stock is worth more then Disney's some think that Jobs will make a bid. Steve Jobs is pretty liberal, it will be a good merger from a liberal point of view.
Would Apple Buy Disney?

7. He will be the largest shareholder, and a seat on the BoD

I wouldn't think a takeover is best right now. I'd say work the with the library that has become available now for the wide screen Ipods and rejuvenate the animation aspect of Disney with the Pixar people. Disney is undervalued now but still a huge cash cost. Every thing Disney does well now pumps up Apple if the wide screen IPods are a hit, and judging from the IPod past there is no reason to think they will drop the ball now. I really don't see the need to take on some of Disney's downsides when you've got what you want for your company, content that you partially own. Expand what has gotten you where you are, load up on stock value and cash from that, if Disney's value goes up Job's cash and Apple's value will have gone up as well.

3. I'd love it, but I don't think it's financially possible...

...yet. As Apple climbs in value and Disney drops, it may happen in the future.

Apple used to have a kiosk in Futureworld at Epcot. I'd love to see Apple computers all over the park to replace the crappy peecee's they have now.

4. Doesn't disney own ABC TV?
Could this be the return of a liberal voice in TV?

Now that would be something.

11. Yes, but most at ABC are already liberal
my cousin works on the lot and she's a very liberal Democrat. She says that most people working there are also quite liberal, but the top guns at corporate...not so much so. It's Corporate, not ABC management (which lives on a short leash), that needs the changes.

8. Maybe that's one of the "fun new products" that'll be announced tomorrow
;-)

(Although I'm hoping for an Intel Mac Mini with Front Row.)

9. I'm part of Disney, and most of us wouldn't be unhappy with
such a merger. The past ten years have been one mis-management disaster after another. We definitely need a fresh start and fresh blood. Jobs has an innate sense of what makes good family entertainment, and he'll be making John Lasseter head of animation and imagineering, which will be great for ex-animators like myself. I'm sure that John and Roy will work very well together; they're both great guys and both have a huge amount of respect for artists.

As for ABC "liberalism"; that would require a shakeup at the top, as much of the management is already liberal (even if the content isn't). Neutral and objective is what I'm hoping for.

14. I didn't see that we posted this nearly simultaneously!
I agree with you on all counts and I'm in a totally different division/city. I totally agree that it needs a shake-up.

10. As someone in the Disney family, I would love it.
I love Steve Jobs and think he would be terrific new blood at Disney/ABC/ESPN.

17. Hey there!
It must be another DUer that I was thinking of. Funny, there are a few of us here (although some have since moved on to Dreamworks or other studios). Are you on the Main lot?

15. Since its been openly discussed
Its pretty much assured that it won't happen. These rumors rarely pan out.

(In fact it means that it was proably was seriously considered 2 to 6 months ago and the TPB declined to pursue it and its just now leaking out)

16. The Pixar buyout that included Jobs as majority shareholder
was also a "rumor" discussed here before it happened.

18. Thats fine and true and this one might happen to
Im just saying that once buyout rumors become common knowledge, its rare that the rumor actually happens.

Theres usually some very angry people when these rumors become common knowledge while the deal is being considered. People angry because the deal just cost them millions or billions more, angry people in the SEC etc. Sometimes the the rumor causes the financials to shift enough that the deal no longer becomes possible (or desireable for the TPTB)

In fact, the discussion of buyout usually BECOMES common knowledge only after the information is quite stale.
