U.S. Options in Iraq Worsen as Unrest Grows
By Steven Komarow, USA TODAY

(Feb. 27) -- Iraq's intensified religious battles could undermine the Bush administration plan for cutting the number of U.S. troops there, experts say, especially if negotiations in Baghdad fail to produce a national unity government.

11. In Feb of 03 I heard a man on NPR say that in Iraq their was 103 .....
.... different sides and trying to govern a post Saddam Iraq or trying to set up
a government there would be a nightmare. I think it might have been Joe Wilson.

14. Realistically if their is an all out civil war, there will be little
our troops can do to stop it unless we take sides in which case we would be further screwed. I think we will just have to sit back and see how it unfolds. All we would be able to do is try to enforce curfews, etc.

9. Now, wait just a minute here!
This totally flies in face of what I just heard on CNN!

I'm in shock!

((((heavy sarcasm))))

Our US Ambassador to Iraq, Khalizad--was just on CNN. He said that there is no threat of civil war. Seriously--he said that things were really dicey a couple of days ago, but now everything is better. Didn't you hear--the seven Iraqi big wigs met--and Khalizad said that they all decided that civil war and continued violence was not the best course.

I really thought we were in the clear, people!

Are you telling me that not everything on CNN is true???

But...Wolf Blitzer was asking the questions!! He wouldn't lie to us, would he???

(sorry for the sarcasm...the heavy deluge of BushCo lies has me experiencing some kind of crack up)

23. What is all this? All the media ever gives us is...
bad news about IRAQ... Don't they know we've accomplished truly wonderful things there? Don't they know that everything's going fine and according to plan? It's such a shame they insist on giving Americans the impression that it's not going to be easy to make IRAQ into a fully functioning, modern Democracy with human rights for all... We're almost there, if we can just silence all these nay-sayers and their negative attitudes! :sarcasm:

What a load of crap. I am an eternal optimist (have to be, just to hope our own Republic isn't irretrievably sliding down the crapper), and even I don't see much hope for IRAQ. If a chance exists, it's about as robust as if it were hanging by a thread. If civil war does break out--our troops had better have created those 'permanent' bases with a huge perimeter of easily defended space so that they can pull their heads back in (like a turtle) and ride the thing out... Better yet, come home. It's tolerable if we do as much as we can to help the IRAQIs build an enlightened government--since we removed their previous (albeit malignent) one, but we can't be expected to forcibly prevent them from choosing to engage in their own civil war.

It seems to me that the neocons should probably "want" a civil war. If they were to foment one or merely allow one, the resulting fight would devastate IRAQ even more than it already has been--cause the various factions to more or less exhaust themselves and possibly create a situation where most IRAQIs really would want to be rescued. Then, the military could step in and defeat the winner (if they can be called that--rather they should be described as the last one standing) and install an admittedly puppet government. Even then they'd face continued insurgency--for these people are determined if nothing else, but it would probably take alot of the wind from their sails, and if the people were truly desperate for a reprieve in the fighting, they'd be motivated to cooperate and therefore turn the offenders in or identify them to U.S. intelligence to have them dealt with. It seems... that those who love war... can't lose. If one war leads to another internal one, they can just delay a bit and still have the rest of their war. In that way, the factions may be playing right into the hands of the neocons. Of course, this whole argument may be entirely wrong... maybe the neocons are so invested in achieving success with the current action that a civil war would be seen as an insurmountable failure (and if it was enough to motivate the citizens of America to demand a pull-out... then they'd be right). In time, we'll see what happens.

Okay Honey. Focus on things that matter. It could be Your personal problem with your library for all I know.

But discussing HIM, is AN IGNORANT assessment of how much MEDIA spread he posesses.

Okay, Dear?

24. Maybe
Some people need to hear yelling until their ears bleed to understand that the Media is all propoganda. Chris Matthews represents a phoney "liberal" spokesperson because his background was working for Tip O'Neill at one point. My "yelling" is only a response to the daily threads here that give his show such an inflated sense of PROPORTION where the media is involved.

They probably give him a hard on.
