Lou Dobbs told to Shut up!

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/02/27.html#a7324

Lou Dobbs reported today that "Dubai Ports World" officials have tried to silence him and get CNN to suppress his reports.

Video-WMP Video-QT

Mark Dennis, spokesman for Dubai Ports World: " CNN won't shut up Lou Dobbs."

They are refusing to give any more interviews to CNN or allow them to video tape their operations overseas. To CNN's credit they have refused to comply with their demands.

3. Yep! I watched the show. Lou was GREAT!
In a very professional way he said...FU...I run MY SHOW, and I'm going to continue reporting on you and everything I see wrong!!!!

Of course those weren't his words, but that's what he meant!

Thanks Lou, for being one of a very few reporters who won't back down under intimidation!

It was truly one of the more bizarre things I have seen done by a pol. They are cute little grade-schoolers and he shook their hands instead of hugging them. Obviously doesn't care much for being a father.

Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 11:00 PM by GainesT1958
Well, they MUST have something...at LEAST one "something"...to hide!

Forty-five days is NOT NEARLY long enough...Congress should demand at least a 60-day review period. We deserve thoroughness..NOT a rush job like Ports World and Dub & Co. want!

I live in a port city...it's a state port and so not directly subject to this edict...BUT...every port stands to be affected by this sweetheart deal, ESPECIALLY if something goes wrong!:grr:

6. Good for Lou!
First thing I thought of when I read the OP was, shoot, first they want to run the ports, then they want to decide what our media puts out? It is bad enough that our own contry is doing so much news supression, but having another country tell us what we can and cannot report? I don't think so!

thread title (2-21-06 GD): VIDEO- Lou Dobss on CFIUS (the secretive agency that okays this type of {deal}
Comment/excerpt: Hard-hitting report on the “firestorm” on the UAE ports deal on CNN/Lou Dobbs. Apparently the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US, which is run by the Treasury Department (and CSX’s former CEO, John Snow, is now Sec. of the Treasury – a clear conflict of interest) and is so secretive, even the Secretary of Defense didn’t know about the deal. There have been many questionable approvals in the past, and a GAO report has questioned CFIUS’s narrow focus on boosting foreign trade without any real understanding of national security concerns. We need to get a linked copy & analysis of the Fall 2005 GAO report on CFIUS's poor record in comprehending national security concerns - mentioned near the end of the video clip.

thread title (2-21-06 GD): VIDEO- Shut Up, Lou Dobbs (PR campaign to sell public on UAE ports)
Comment/excerpt: Another fine liveoaktx/Can-o-fun video clip.Lou Dobbs says that the big PR campaign entourage from the UAE that is in Washington to promote the ports sale has REFUSED TO SPEAK TO CNN “BECAUSE CNN WON’T SHUT UP LOU DOBBS.” Lou Dobbs says his reporter is outside the UAE (she speaks too) and the UAE is welcome to come and speak about the deal any time they want. He emphasizes that their refusal is NOT because of misreporting or mistakes, but because they want to suppress the story.

thread title (2-22-06 GD): VIDEO- Bush and his UAE Pals- (Dobbs)
liveoaktx/Can-o-fun video of a fine Lou Dobbs segment. It brings out Carlyle Group and Neil Bush’s funding by UAE. Also Snow’s former position as CSX CEO. David Sanborn just appointed to head the government agency that supervises the ports. Even mentions Bob Dole’s lobbying for the deal. Liveoaktx comments: “Snow has some chutzpah going out as a spokesman.”

thread title (2-24-06 GD): VIDEO-Lou Dobss-Which Governor LIKES the Port Deal?
Liveoaktx/Can-o-Fun video. Lou quotes statements from six state governors who would be affected by the ports deal. All but one were opposed to what has happened. Only ONE expressed “complete confidence in the president.” Guess which southeast state he’s king … er…governor of?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x533343
thread title (2-27-06 GD): VIDEO- Dobbs/Peterson Smackdown on the Ports
Can-o-Fun/ liveoaktx in Windows media format. Lou Dobbs interviews Kiim Peterson, a spokeman for the Bush Administration position on the ports. The question: what entity would have control over which port shipping containers were inspected in Miami if this deal went through? Perterson danced and evaded but Dobbs persisted until the answer was finally dragged out: it would be DP World. Dobbs says that that ownership of US ports by ANY foreign government is idiotic.

Awhile back, one of his CNN bosses harrassed him to the point of absurdity re: his religion (devout Catholic/Opus Dei member). Lou quit and sued. They settled, and he came back. I'm pretty sure part of the deal was he gets to do whatever the hell he wants. And hey, he is a ratings winner, not just here, but internationally.

He is not a Democrat, though. He is one of those rock rib republicans; kind of old school. Not in the neocon wing at all.

Sometimes I wish CNN would shut up Lou Dobbs, too! He seems to have a lot of pull there, though, & can pretty much cover what he wants. Whether that's immigrants everyday, or the ports issue. I think it's a good thing that he's independent & going against the corporate wishes. But I still can't help thinking he's going off on this issue primarily because of xenophobia. That's really the common thread in most of his shows. He's a good temporary ally now though, I guess.

15. More proof that the Corporations' think they completely own the MSM...well
they are 90% correct....There are still the 10% of the media that speak out (The Keith Olbermann's and Lou Dobbs for example) but the rest of them and many of the Corporate Media heads listen to them. My guess is CNN is letting Lou run with this because they know its gotten too big to ignore and the flow of the public is demanding it.

But it does make one wonder how many times its happened the other way around where a company tells the Corp. parent to shut up one of their own and the next thing you know they are out of a job....hmmm...can you say Bill Moyers, Dan Rather, Aaron Brown? :eyes:

37. The story should by HOW they sent notice.
Dubai says the American voter should not have access to information about its own ports ... since this company might run several of our ports. This is pivotal. This shows part of the reason that Dubai should not run our ports being a country-company-religion rolled into a single entity.
HOW did they say this.
Did they indicate WHY.
WHO said it.
I've got what and when.

STUPID JOURNALISTS do not realize that Americans are STARVING for this kind of information.

I'm glad Lou said what he said. But, it only raises him to the level of GOOD WHINER.
The sad part is that everyone else in his profession IS WORSE.

..and they wonder why periodicals are losing readership. Arrrrggh.

Arab Co., White House Had Secret Agreement

The administration did not require Dubai Ports to keep copies of business records on U.S. soil, where they would be subject to court orders. It also did not require the company to designate an American citizen to accommodate U.S. government requests. Outside legal experts said such obligations are routinely attached to U.S. approvals of foreign sales in other industries.

It has worked for BushCo since 2000 and even before.

This is why the concentration of the broadcast media into a handful of conglomerates is so vile - intimidate one boardroom at Clear Channel and shut up 1500 radio stations.

them to hold this position throughout the remainder of the 45 days.

We've seen too much from the corporate propaganda partners within the cabal.

Having observed their pol/psy-op games played on us, we could eventually hear Dobbs saying that he now realizes blah, blah, blah - whatever they could come up with to rationalize a change of support. It could be genuinely Dobbs or it could be a set-up to from the start - though his position on this port issue follows his pro-America positions of the past which all appear genuine.

In the meantime, CNN may support Dobbs on the surface, but they can load their shows with pro DP World propaganda starting even today by the guests they have on, by the positions of the other employees and by twisted so-called news blurbs.

I hope I'm wrong, but for those who follow CNN - observe them carefully to see if their Dobbs position (as of today) only applies to Dobbs and whether they just go along with the usual right wing agenda promotion as usual.

64. He's been a crusader for issues dear to me in the past
- outsourcing of American jobs for one. They just sent 2/3 of our high-tech engineering jobs to China recently - he was reporting on this issue over a year ago and had my company on his list of job exporters. Didn't do any good since my company management are traitors to the flag.

He's also been extremely critical of Bushco's deficit spending and most of their economic BS.

He's a self-described old-school Republican - which means he's not a neocon by any stretch and listens to reason. He's from before the lying simpleton rednecks took over the Republican party so I can respect his opinion when I agree with him, flip him off (in more ways that one) when I don't. At least he uses reasoned argument to make his points (except when it comes to Mexican immigrants which is a "flip off" issue where I find him to sound harsh & somewhat bigoted).

70. It's sad that this is such a big news story.
The AP has an article out now about how Dobbs is attacking this issue. I think the big story is why people are so intriged by a TV news person going against this administration. Doesn't that prove that the "liberal media bias" is a bunch of BS?

CNN's trying to obtain a court order that said the military in New Orleans had to let CNN reporter film the recovery of the bodies of those murdered by bushco and then after agreeing to the terms, the military started pointing guns at CNN reporters the next day. It seems like CNN gave up and the body count of the military was unbelievably low.

95. I agree, his obsession with topics is too much, however..
...I agree with him 100% on immigration, globalization, outsourcing, it must be managed, slowed down, and in some cased STOPPED.

This is the triangulation with the likes of Mike Savage, and other xenophobes, and the left on globalization, free trade vs. fair trade, and unions vs. big corporations.

The left sees the injustices being done against workers and the poor. The xenophobes see America's culture being diluted. Is this an unholy alliance for a means to and end? Not sure, but one thing is sure, the ENDS look dismal, and globalization must be checked.

Unholy or not.

and selling out America for at least 5 years now?

Either you don't watch Mr. Dobbs program, or you do not comprehend what you see with much alacrity.

Mr. Dobbs has not earned such derision, and quite obviously his actions here are hardly the acts of a media whore.

He is standing up to enormously powerful people who are backed by the "BFEE".

You can challenge him on views you may disagree with, you can even be angry with those views, but Dobbs is a man who has earned far more respect than that which you have displayed here.
