Risk of civil war in Iraq is over |
|
says Khalilzad... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060228/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq <snip>
Sunni Arab leaders said they were prepared to end their boycott of the talks on a new government if Shiites return mosques seized in reprisal attacks against Sunnis and meet other unspecified demands.
"That crisis is over," U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad declared.
"I think the country came to the brink of a civil war, but the Iraqis decided that they didn't want to go down that path, and came together," the ambassador told CNN. "Clearly the terrorists who plotted that attack wanted to provoke a civil war. It looked quite dangerous in the initial 48 hours, but I believe that the Iraqis decided to come together."
more...phew!

Now that the Iraqis have come together, we can bring our troops home. Honor with peace. Mission accomplished. We can now use our taxpayer $ here in America. Good times are here again. We no longer have to rebuild their schools and hospitals, we can spend our tax $ here.
OK now for reality www.icasualties.org and how is Afghanistan doing?

7. I wish for peace for Iraq |
|
Only to bring our men and women home. It should have beem their battle not ours. They chose not to fight but W did. I don't see any lasting results.

14. Exactly. W should be announcing our troops to come home |
|
and our tax dollars to be spent here. Oops, I forgot we're not exactly his top priority.

12. But isn't that their war and we can bring our troops home? |
|
We've rebuilt everything we've bombed, we've guaranteed them complete medical insurance to the day they die (something we've denied our own) We've rebuilt their schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
W got to play and act as God to a third world country who was never a threat to us. Now can we use our money to pay for our own?

17. But Rummy said we'd be out of there in 6 months |
|
and Wolfie said the cost would be paid with Iraqi oil.
The real question is how much W wants to give our taxes and the deaths of our troops to commercialization in Iraq.

Once it is certainly underway, it is no longer proper to speak of there being a risk of the thing....
