Cheney seen retiring after midterm elections
From the Moonie-owned, Bush-loving Insight Magazine :

Cheney seen retiring after midterm elections
Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year. Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush. The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs.

Here’s my fear: that Bush will appoint Jeb as vice president, and Jeb will immediately start campaigning to win the presidency in 2008. We’d better be ready for this, Democrats.

1. And guess who is out of a job mid January
Jebbie

Now some will say that McCain and others will not allow this to happen, but I am not so sure of that myself.

2. Jebbie has so many skeletons in his closet it's a wonder that anyone
could even this that he's the next GOP candidate. As much as the bush** family supposedly hates welfare, the entire family has lived off the public trough for their entire existence.

There was a great thread here once on how many times and how much the public has paid to bail that bunch of scheming crooks out. Wish I had bookmarked it.

4. While you are true about Jebbie
Who would have thought Bush would allow a Country that leaders go hunting with bin Laden to control some US ports

3. If this is so why not before the 2006 election? I don't find...
this to be very credible and somehow I don't think Cheney is one to become a fall guy.

5. After the election Bush has nothing to lose
is my guess.

I do not really believe this but with Bush anything is possible.

6. the rift would have to be between poppy bush and cheney. poppy appointed
him to the vice-presidency as a sort of caretake of his son. don't matter what junior says. it's what poppy says that matters.

16. I think you're wrong...
... about Poppy's influence. I think it's pretty clear that he has none at all.

7. If past performance is any indicator
look for Mike Brown to become VP.

9. I don't think people would stand another Bush right now.
But the serious problems with electronic voting and other election fraud may have already made what the people want a moot point for good. The Straussians are playing a long term game and they have sunk their claws in deep. They've managed to do some crippling damage in the short time they've held power. November may be our very last chance. If they retain power or gain even more seats it will truly be over.

With all that said, I don't believe Deadeye will step down.

10. If the Neo Fascists want to get rid of Cheney...
he will have a heart attack induced by an operative. Darth will not let go of his power and money machine willingly.

11. I DO believe Cheney will leave, as I have been predicting for
months. The GOP needs a electable repub in the VP spot to gain name recognition for the 2008 prez election. As someone above said, the neocons have their claws dug in deep, and whatever it takes to keep hold of power -- they will do it. What Cheney "wants" is irrelevant. If he gets too uppity he'll have one of those umbrella-tip 'heart attacks.'

14. There are a couple
of reasons why Cheney will likely not be VP at the end of this year. The first is that the republican party in general recognizes that he is a significant negative for the party. Within that group are the neoconservatives, who are intent on holding onto power. Their chances of doing so are increased by Cheney's retiring due to health concerns.

The second reason has to do with Dick himself. He does not have to remain VP in order to have access to power. In fact, he might have nearly as much power, without nearly the stress, from outside of the administration. The terrible miscalculations on the outcome of invading Iraq and the increasing pressures from Patrick Fitzgerald are taking a toll. More, it is difficult to appreciate the effect that shooting another human being has on a person, if you have not had the experience. It is not that it is impossible to deal with it consciously, so much as the effect it has on the subconscious levels. Visions of the victim, lying unresponsive, bleeding, visit the reckless gunman late at night and early in the morning.

12. last time cheney was this unpopular the rw press floated
the idea that cheney might not be on the 04 ticket... which rallied the loyal base (perceiving part of bushco underfire) and started to raise his numbers (amazing bit of performance art... that...) Given the rw source of this item, I suspect that it is more of the same. I don't buy what they are selling, as I believe it is part of a bigger strategy to try to whip back in line the loyal base (oh no bushco is under attack... they may be scoundrels but they are ours and certainly better than *theirs*). Too bad it is unlikely to work out for them.

13. many of us predicted this scenario back in 2000
i'd love to say i was brilliant, but actually, not many, even in the popular press, fully expected d.c. to last 8 years.
