Ray Taliaferro just mentioned reports in the Washington Times, and one that was pulled from Drudge, that Cheney will step down after the November elections? Did I miss something? That's the first I've heard of this, has anyone else heard of this - has there been a thread here at DU?

in the past 24 hours are discussing the possibility of this happening. Maybe he'll stick around. Maybe he'll drop out after the '06 elections. I would not be surprised to see Dick retire in mid-summer.

2. I hadn't heard anything about this but, |
|
if you think about it: we already know that darth will not be running for pres. SO maybe they will nominate someone who will be running in 08.

3. The R's have at least 3 Beltway boys who want the nomination |
|
and perhaps 2 governors. That sort of thing is custom made to confound Bush nominating a vp that would be a strong 2008 presidential candidate.
But, then, you have to buy into the notion that Cheney is going to resign.
I am feeling sure that with Fitzgerald sniffing around the vp's office that Cheney wants to maintain the cloak of the executive branch for protection as long as possible.

4. A rumor that Cheney was going to resign |
|
ostensibly due to health reasons was very strong in the summer of 2001. Practically no one remembers that (or how incredibly unpopular W was that summer) because 9/11 "changed everything".
If Cheney is the real president, as has been widely speculated, he's not about to resign.
Most rumors are just that. Rumors, with no basis in fact.
Plus, the Washington Times and Matt Drudge are hardly the most reliable sources out there.
