Heckuva Job Brown: I Told Bush on August 30 That NOLA Was 90% Destroyed ->
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 10:14 AM by Stephanie

Katrina hit on the morning of Monday, August 29th.

Bush ignored Kat-astrophe, Brownie sez
BY DAVE GOLDINER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Ex-FEMA boss Michael Brown went back on the offensive yesterday, claiming he personally told President Bush that Hurricane Katrina had destroyed 90% of New Orleans - but still got little federal help.

The much-maligned Brown said he told Bush during a teleconference on Aug. 30 that the city was all but demolished.

"I remember my first words to him were: `Mr. President, my estimate is that 90% - 90% - of the population of New Orleans has now been displaced,'" Brown told "NBC Nightly News" in his first network news interview.

Bush seemed taken aback, Brown recalled. "There was just that split second of silence. And : `90 percent?'

"'Yes, sir, I believe it is that bad. That's how bad it is,'" Brown said he told the President.

"I really thought that would get just the whole mechanism of the federal government to come charging in," he told NBC's Brian Williams.

1. Great pictorial.
That makes me so mad just looking at how he ignored the death and destruction. Son of a bitch. Makes me want to scream.

16. It's the last shot that kills me the most.
There they are after their five-week vacation, sunburned, Laura in her sunglasses like she's just stepping off the Royal Yacht, George waving to the folks, thinking only about their dinner and their soft bed. Bush hasn't even seen the newscasts at this point. He spent the night in a luxury hotel suite and he couldn't even be BOTHERED to flip on CNN. Tomorrow he will do his famous flyover, but even that doesn't do the trick. They still have to burn newscasts to DVD for him on Thursday night to get him to watch it. Of course their only concern is how it will affect their poll numbers, so they start planning some photo-ops, which is why you got "Heckuva job, Brownie" on Friday.

2. Incredibly pathetic
when an incompetent lacky makes you look bad. Brownie is doing a hecukuva job trying to clean up his image. On 30 August we were hunkered down in South Mississippi watching the pine trees topple over and hoping to hell we were gonna live through it.

23. On August 30 George was tucking into a nice dinner by his personal chef
and sleeping snug in his Crawford bed enjoying the last night of his vacation. On Wednesday he finally did a flyover to see the damage on the way back to DC. On Thursday he finally watched some news footage, burned to DVD for him by his staff. On Friday he did the "heckuva job brownie" photo-op in a desperate attempt to save his image.

4. Excellent! And, Condi was buying expensive shoes and
Cheney was buying an expensive house. All this while people clung to their roofs for days without water. Heckuva job, Bushco.

This pictorial illustrates what THIS Nero chose to do while Katrina savaged a large part of this nation.

25. Not just seeing the pics - putting together the storyline with them. The
media should be found criminally negligent for not holding this fascist administration accountable for 6 years now.

Your pics tell more of a real story about Bush's negligence than any 6months of CNN's Katrina reporting.

26. Maybe he thought it was "nineTEEN percent."
After all, he was never very good at math, let alone anything in school. And nineteen percent might have let him think only black people were killed, and no one would notice them gone.

27. absolutely asinine
It has been established over and over that Bushco has a callous disregard for human life unless they are profiteering like pirates. So unless Halliburton gets a no-bid contract, what would be their motivation to help the people of NOLA?

People like Bushco are the worst people on earth. They were put here only to test the resolve of good people and shock us into action. We as a nation should have done more even though our government was fucking worthless.

Many repubs want government agencies to be rendered worthless just so they can get rid of them during budget cuts. ...so small that Grover Norquist can drown it in a bathtub.

The arabian horse guy should have seen something like this coming when he accepted the FEMA position.
