Why does Bush smile and laugh when talking of Iraq and violence?
I'm watching him live and I can't help but notice that every single time he is asked a question about Iraq and the increasing violence, he smiles, smirks and shrugs it off.

What is so fucking funny Mr. President?

1. Nervous. I know lots of times I giggle when I'm nervous, even
when what's going on is serious, and I've seen others do it too.

Not that this excuses him in any way.

9. you nailed it. He is nervous knowing he is breaking the law in so many
ways, and being smart enouth to know the past crimes can't be changed now. That they could come back and should and bite him in the ass.

19. a sociopath
I agree with the sociopath diagnosis. My ex-husband is a sociopath and he laughed and smirked everytime he made a stupid point, thinking of it as "gotcha." Of course, it isn't really a gotcha, just another stupid attempt to make his questioner look foolish.

7. I can't decide between these two options:
1. The man is sadistic and gets a big charge out of death and torture and the grins, smirks and shrugs are an indication of the hideous enjoyment he gets when it is brought to his attention.

2. The man is an abject failure who knows he has really screwed things up over there and the grins, smirks and shrugs are a nervous reaction he manifests when it is brought ot his attention.

Could be a combination of both.

10. Because he's a goddamn sociopath who should have been locked up
Rather than "elected" to the highest office in the land. From his childhood, when he blew up frogs with firecrackers, to his days as govenor, when he mocked Carla Faye Tucker, to now, when he gets his jollies off on the war, the man has always displayed an unholy tendency to unnatural joy concerning violence and death.

If you notice when Bushboy speaks, he is always at his most coherent and articulate when speaking about matters of death and destruction. When he is speaking on matters of caring and compassion, he stutters and bumbles, barely speaking in a coherent manner. A sure sign of a sociopath.

13. A full explaination here....
http://www.9types.com/wwwboard/messages/18332.html

Antisocial Personality Disorder is chronic, beginning in adolescence
and continuing throughout adulthood. There are ten general
symptoms:

not learning from experience
no sense of responsibility
inability to form meaningful relationships
inability to control impulses
lack of moral sense
chronically antisocial behavior
no change in behavior after punishment
emotional immaturity
lack of guilt
self-centeredness

People with this disorder may exhibit criminal behavior. They may
not work. If they do work, they are frequently absent or may quit
suddenly. They do not consider other people's wishes, welfare or
rights. They can be manipulative and may lie to gain personal
pleasure or profit. They may default on loans, fail to provide child
support, or fail to care for their dependents adequately. High risk
sexual behavior and substance abuse are common. Impulsiveness,
failure to plan ahead, aggressiveness, irritability, irresponsibility,
and a reckless disregard for their own safety and the safety of
others are traits of the antisocial personality.

Socioeconomic status, gender, and genetic factors play a role.
Males are more likely to be antisocial than females. Those from
lower socioeconomic groups are more susceptible. A family history
of the disorder puts one at higher risk.

There are many theories about the cause of Antisocial Personality
Disorder including experiencing neglectful parenting as a child, low
levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, and belief that
antisocial behavior is justified because of difficult circumstances.
Psychotherapy, group therapy, and family therapy are common
treatments. The effects of medical treatment are inconclusive.
Unfortunately, most people with Antisocial Personality Disorder
reject treatment. Therefore, recovery rates are low.

14. Because I think he's internally divided
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 10:28 AM by Armstead
I'm no psychologist, but I'll play one on DU for a second.

My impression is that Bush is internally divided about what he's doing. There's a part of him that might actually be reasonable, but weak and confused.

He allowed himself to be convinced that it was "the right thing to do," and because of his personality, he latched onto that and convinced himself in a massively stubborn way.

But he can't get rid of that little voice inside that says, "Maybe i really did screw this up." So, like the jon Lovitz character -- or one of the salesman in GlenGarry GlennRoss -- he is simultaneously trying to convince himself as well as his audience.

When asked about it, the smirk and defensive response hits this nerve of doubt for a moment and he has to brace himself to go into the sales pitch, both to himself as well as to the audiene. Then he gets over that moment of internal honesty and goes into the speil with renewed passion.

37. Agree w/that
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 01:23 PM by Marie26
Playing a psychologist too - I think part of the reason he IS so stubborn about Iraq is because he can't let himself doubt for one moment the rightness of his cause. If he does, he loses that belief he's doing "God's work" & realizes he has killed thousands of Americans for nothing. He couldn't live w/that; he prefers denial. Thus the need for the bubble - closed audiences to cheer him on, yes-men to approve his positions, etc. He can't confront reality anymore.

That's why, IMO, he's so pissy when anyone attempts to even slightly criticize his policy - it creates a moment of doubt, which might pop his bubble of denial. That bubble is becoming harder & harder to maintain. Bush is having to constantly isolate himself to wall himself off from reality & his own doubts. But reality keeps intruding, into his life & into his thoughts as well. I can see two things happening: Bush collapses completely once the bubble is popped, or he makes one last stand to defend his delusions. He is headed for a nervous breakdown at some point, I think, and it might be soon.

He thinks it's fun when other people die.He gets off on control he likes to see others submission and destruction. Bush is a morally degenerate sociopath. All the neocons are sociopaths.I feel most of washingtom and most Ceops of big corporations are soiciopaths they created a system to serve thier kind to reward sociopathic behavior. After all 1 in 4 people are bullies with personalities found somewhere on the spectrum of conduct disorders.

24. I've noticed that
and I see it in kids I teach. They laugh when they talk about something bad with kind of a I-can't-believe-you-are-so-stupid-I-have-to-tell-you-this laugh.

It's a childish affectation that communicates lack of respect for the listener.

33. and it's worn too thin, now
it is was especially disgusting in the aftermath of Katrina. Bush's "jokes" after he finally made his way to Louisiana were appalling. I think every American should watch that little news conference.
Bush joking of getting drunk on "hurricanes" and rebuilding Trent Lott's house.
While people were dying, literally, all around him.
That was truly a sickening exhibition.
And it was the real George Bush, unfettered from his handlers.
