The latest violence in Iraq is:

1) An attempt by insurgents to provoke civil war

2) Alarming, but not civil war

3) Already civil war

1. I like the way the pose three options to a yes or no question.
That way, there are two "non-civil war" answers.

The last thing Bush defenders want this to be considered is a civil war. But NEWSFLASH: It's been a civil war since the we "handed over control" to an Iraqi government.

the entire history of that region known as Iraq is mired in civil war.

3. all three choices are w failures
1) May 1st, 2003 - mission accomplished...(attacks against the accomplished mission continue).
2) Yeah, it is alarming...(what are we gonna DO about it - re-up or retreat?)
3) Invade(done), defeat Bathe(done), occupy the country(done), solidify local support (some police - elections have gone ahead), win the civil war / elections (just starting), exit. (tomorrow is such a long time)...

4. Amazing. I saw a story yesterday where NBC basically
said that Iraq was inching toward Civil War, but that they had a 24-hour cooling off period (read: martial law) and the Iraqi people decided that they "didn't want civil war", so now they aren't having it.

This left me simultaneously laughing and shouting obscentities at the TV.

They've been in a civil war for months. All of the experts on the ground that aren't giving their so-called "reports" as scripted by the Pentagon agree.
