CBS Slants Bush Poll in Favor of Democrats
An asshole on another board hit me up with this:

In its classic "fair and balanced" tradition, CBS slanted in favor of Democrats its poll that found Bush has a 34 percent approval rating and a 59 percent disapproval rating, an all-time high for a CBS poll.

On the bottom of the PDF version of the poll (page 18) it says how many Democrats versus Republicans were contacted.

"Total Republicans" contacted: 272 unweighted and 289 weighted.

"Total Democrats" contacted: 409 unweighted and 381 weighted.

"Total Independents" contacted: 337 unweighted and 348 weighted.

Brent Baker also noted how CBS failed to highlight a key portion of its poll on the Feb. 27 "CBS Evening News." 66 percent of respondents thought the media devoted "too much time" to Cheney's hunting accident.

1. Reality is people are less likely to identify themselves as a Repug.
This is covered in another thread somewhere on DU.

3. The weighted numbers sound OK
I think Democrats actually still outnumber Republicans, as has been the case for over 60 years.

4. I suppose the real issue, insofar as these numbers might translate
into election results, is the "likely voter" question. There are probly more self-identified Dems than Puggies, but as a group they may have a lower probability of actually voting. Part of this effect may be due to Puggy electoral shenanigans ranging from felon lists to running out of ballots to Diebolding, but whatever the reason, good numbers in a poll like this may not translate into quite such good numbers in November.

5. It's Based Upon The Actual Voter Registration Lists
So, they are going to call according the proportions of all voter registrations. Apparently more people are registered Dems.

However, since the vote totals don't approximate that percentage, it means that there are registered dems voting republican. So, these "dems" are getting called and DISAPPROVE of Silverspoon. IOW, the folks that voted for him no longer approve of the job.

7. I'd use one of their own rebuttals against....
"Cry for me you baby. CRRRRRYYYYY!"

or

"Your desperation is pathetic."

I've stopped trying to hit them with truth and facts...because to them...truth and facts don't matter...they made up their minds on the subjects a long time ago. i.e. The press is liberal. *snickers in the background.

Of Republicans ONLY 65% APPROVE of BUSH and ONLY 41 APPROVE OF CHENEY!

During the Clinton Administration, even during IMPEACHMENT, Clinton had HIGHER APPROVAL FROM BOTH PARTIES!

That's from q15 on page 12 of 18.
