Pumping iron, with Condoleezza Rice

NEW YORK (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will flex more than her diplomatic muscles when she demonstrates her personal workout regime on network television this week.

In an unusual departure for such a high-profile official, Rice not only pumps some iron, but also discusses how she manages to stay fit during her continual globetrotting and reveals strategies for coping with high-calorie banquets.

"She is tough, I have to tell you," said Barbara Harrison, a news co-anchor with the NBC4 channel in Washington who persuaded Rice, 51, to put on her gym sweats and participate in a regular segment on health and fitness.

"She is amazing. The amount of weights she handles and the endurance she has ... As a person who has exercised all my life, I was very impressed," said Harrison, who joined in the workout at the State Department gym with Rice and her personal trainer.

10. So uh - now it's time to make Condi look more human and accessible?
Wonder why?

they do this shit with Bush from time to time - "human interests" angles in an attempt to make him seem like "one of us" (barf)

So now it's Condi's turn?

Again - wonder why?

23. You know why!
I've seen enough of your discerning posts to know this is no riddle to you! I cannot believe they would really do it though. But they certainly are proceeding apace, our friend Frank Luntz is undoubtedly conducting focus groups at this very moment determining if Ms. Rice may indeed be considered a potential GOP presidential figurehead.

26. Yeah, I know :(
The tone of many of the news stories on Rice for the last year has been geared toward the promoting of Condi Rice as a candidate.

They're running her up the flag pole, so to speak.

12. They've finally figured out how to do "bread and circuses"
without the bread! The lowest common denominator is to now just give us the circuses, and let the riff-raff figure out where to get their own bread.

high-calorie banquets, and working out at the State Department gym...and to think, the rest of us earning an HONEST living have to work at least 2 jobs just to feed our families...work out at the gym? Oh please, like we even have time for a full night's sleep. Gym membership? Well, yeah, maybe after winning the lottery.

Let them eat cake!

I just can't understand why she would do this. Doesn't she want to be taken seriously or is everything in Bush world about appearance and photo ops? :sarcasm: She's in great shape but why would a professional woman do this?

28. She also doesn't have to care for a family or even
pay attention to a family or husband when her work day is over. It's alot easier to maintain an exercise regimen and your diet and fitness when you don't have to squeeze others into a tight schedule. I've been thirty-something and single. It's alot easier to keep those fitness goals.
