I smell an exit strategy
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=1671087&page=1

Near the end, Bush hints that, if there is a civil war, we're washing our hands of Iraq.

Gee, that mosque bombing sure was convenient, eh?

2. You're right. They're going to blame it on Rumsfeld.
And of course on those silly, silly Iraqis.

The new spin is going to be: "Hey, we tried, but those stupid Iraqis blew it! The hell with the Iraqi people!"

That spin is already emerging, as this article from WF Buckley shows:

http://www.nationalreview.com/buckley/buckley200602241451.asp

"Our mission has failed because Iraqi animosities have proved uncontainable by an invading army of 130,000 Americans. The great human reserves that call for civil life haven't proved strong enough. No doubt they are latently there, but they have not been able to contend against the ice men who move about in the shadows with bombs and grenades and pistols.

"The Iraqis we hear about are first indignant, and then infuriated, that Americans aren't on the scene to protect them and to punish the aggressors. And so they join the clothing merchant who says that everything is the fault of the Americans."

8. The spin plan is in place. It's got to happen to save the 2006
election so a democratic House doesn't start looking into what the hell they've been doing for the last five years.

5. That's the smell of exhaust fumes from the choppers.
Taking off from the embassy roof in Baghdad.

It isn't a matter of "getting out", it's a matter of getting kicked out.

9. Yes. Getting kicked out.
Leave behind all those bases, all those oilfields, all that EASY money they were supposed to be pocketing by now.

(Not that Halliburton won't be making money hand over fist, until the very last chopper out.)
