What would Bill be called if Hillary becomes the first woman president? |
|
First Gentleman? Is there an official title already designated?
Hubby and I were just discussing this, and I thought I'd put it to the experts!

9. back when i still had presidential aspirations... |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 07:04 PM by LizMoonstar
i declared that my husband would be called 'The First Dude'.
I believe in other countries, First Gentleman is pretty common.
However, I expect that being as he is a former president, in this specific case, the press would make a point of avoiding the question, and just stick with his name or 'former president' or some such.
edit: and were I president and not already committed to a partner, I'd insist on some hand-picked hot male interns for my office; big dog was dumb about it, but i can see the appeal.

15. "First Gentleman" as a title isn't any sillier than "First Lady" |
|
we're just used to First Lady. So, the president's husband probably would be referred to as the First Gentleman.
But, Presidents' wives aren't called "First Lady" to their faces, as in "How are you today, Mrs. First Lady?" They are called Mrs. ________.
So, in Bill's case, he would be called "Mr. Clinton" or "Mr. President" and referred to as "Former President Clinton."

17. First Gentleman would be his title. |
|
But he would still be addressed as "Mr President" while Hillary would be "Madam President".
Have you notice that some times Hillary is refered to as "Former First Lady, Senator Hillary Clinton"?
I wounder if she would want to be addressed as "President Rodham-Clinton"?

18. Interesting question. |
|
Also you have to think that if the Senator does run, there will be quite a bit of speculation of this subject in the media, emphasizing the involvement of both the Clintons in the White House.

Hillary was asked this question in a interview within the past year or two (Bill was with her) and she said she liked "First Mate." I'm sorry I cannot remember who was the interviewer. Maybe Larry King.
