TALKERS magazine Top 250 out (including the "Heavy Hundred") |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 11:30 PM by CaseyBuck
http://www.talkers.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=44Several progressive talk show hosts made the list, including Randi at #10, as well as several other Air America hosts, and Ed Schultz. However, they didn't include Mike Malloy, who has made the list three times before.

1. Hmmmm. The top nine surprise me a bit. |
|
I guess I'm just old, but I don't get Howard Stern's popularity. It also pi**es me off that the next 8 are ALL PUB AH's! I know it's going to be tough to dethrone Limpballs, but Hanity??? Dr. Laura??? Neil Boortz????
yeaaccchhh!
btw, CONGRATS TO Randie!!!!

4. Agree with you completely, Napi21. H. Stern leaves me cold and |
|
it's a decades-old thing. He was a potty mouth and now he's a sued potty mouth. No talent there, in my humble opinion.
I spent years in radio talk in the 70s and 80s -- and talked about everything except sports.
This "Talkers" line-up does not reflect the people I know -- or the people I listen to.
On another topic, sorry to hear about the Phoenix radio situation -- losing their Air America outlet. We heard AM 1010 for the two weeks we visited in Phoenix, Tucson, and Scottsdale. My guess is another AM station will pick it up. Apparently the format WAS working.

2. Interesting about Mike and others... |
|
Dr. Laura (so predictable) Schesinger - she got ranked #5? In our area she's _only_ on XM. No AM station carries her.
I guess Howard Stern got the #1 slot based on his 2005 performance on regular radio.
Laura Ingraham a "female issues" talk host? Maybe I'm not familiar with her but when I have heard her (very rarely now) she's doing more political stuff than not, no?
And Tom Leykis - still around?? I remember the guy from his days with hooking up with Caesar the Geezer on what was then known as Talk Radio UK - Caesar did overnights, and I guess Tom must have been doing afternoons or early evenings. I guess he's changed his gig over the years though.
But to miss out Mike Malloy.... maybe the FBI are already into it - don't want anyone to know he exists, is on X number of stations (including XM), and that although OTT for my tastes at times he is often "right on the money". No Opie and Anthony either, since they're heavily promoted on XM.
Though an interesting list!

5. I agree that Rachel is an up and coming talk host. We hear her in |
|
the (very) early AM in Portland, and I've seen her on TV. I like her positions, her wit, and her looks.

7. I would certainly agree with that. She held her own with any RW |
|
talker I've seen her with... I think it was Tucker Carlson.
Alone, she is informed, sincere, has a nice voice, and no regionalisms.
I wish her well in her burgeoning career! I just wish she was on a little bit later than the former "Morning Sedition time slot (3 AM to 6 AM Pacific Time).
