What must the rest of the world think of the USA now? Scandalsville
When you talk to people around the world they are shocked at what is going on over here. Sandal after scandal. Not a day goes past without some other revelation of corruption.

24. I agree
That is what i get living abroad... that for the first
term we were excused, but the election proved it is not
an accident. And the international marketing has been very
thick about how democatic american elections are... so people
abroad really believe shrub won an honest poll. Their state
media have all bought in to the officiality of the bush
imperium and whilst people realize he's a total idiot loser,
the reelection solidified the fact for them, that the american
population has similarly lost the plot.

I watched the game and, the fans as a whole did no such thing, a few boorish idiots did but that's it.

Edited to add this comment by the U.S. coach:

"If they cheer for the Russians I'll be very disappointed. I'll have trouble crossing the border again if that's the case," U.S. head coach Walt Kyle had said before the game. Afterwards, he decided, "I thought it was more pro-Canadian than anti-American. We came in as favourites. But it was a bit disappointing."

It seems he recognized it as fans supporting Canada's team and nothing more.

I'm ashamed of the Vanvouver fans. Put your politics aside and realize that these US kids are are playing their hearts out for thier friends, family, and country. And I'm sure a lot of them are upset with the current US administration as well. Stop painting everyone with the same brush and grow up. Sure, I wanted Canada to win as well but not at the expense of our reputation as peace-loving, campasionate people. What must the hockey fans of the world think hearing "US SUCKS" chanted at high volume and singling out an individual player to bully. Show some class! It takes more sportmanship to win well than to lose w

Can you believe it. Another war the Americans cant win. Go Canada Go. Luc Bourdon for M.V.P.

I LOVE hockey, and i LOVE Canada, and im a huge Canadian fan and have attended many of the games (even the USA and non-American games) and i am DISGUSTED at the way that the American players are being treated. These young men are here to play a sport, show some class you ugly fans, stop throwing bags of peanuts on the ice. These boys played their hearts out shame on you. I know not all fans at these games are chanting USA sucks and good for you! Lets join forces and cheer for the USA on Thursday night. Goodluck Canada, you fans better start cheering cuz what ive heard at the games ive attened is pretty abysmal.

No. 38 Author: ardeacon
I think it's freaking disgraceful that an arena full of Canadians are cheering against Americans. Not just booing, but jeering at them and going as far as chanting "USA SUCKS" from the rafters. I'm embarrassed to be a Canadian after that display.

Good to see Canada showed it's class with there anti American chants. Why would they show an anti American banner on the scoreboard?Go Finland!

No. 26 Author: toddster04
As a cdn I am embarrassed over my western counterparts. Show some respect. These are 17-19 yr old kids, and you boo them and hold up disrespectful signs. Did the US do the same last year to us. NO.

No. 28 Author: mydoglouie
The people of the province of BC, to be specific the city of Vancouver are an embarassment to the rest of Canada. To boo a team is one thing, to boo them for political reasons is another. If the booing continues during their Russian game they should be all ashamed. If this had anything to do with hockey than there would be cheering for one of the best teams in the tourney. Get a life!

No. 45 Author: venivedivici
I'm appalled by the fact that the fans in Vancouver behaved in such a boorish manner. Flashing "U suck America" on the TV scoreclock has got to be a real low in Canada's sporting history. What is this hockey nation turning into? Maybe we should take up another national pastime if this is what it turns into. I for one do not agree with US politics or their entire political regime....but this is hockey and there is no place for politics. I actually thought Vancouver fans had more class than this.....and I guess I was mistaken.

No. 60 Author: mdss
The fans of Vancouver are an embarrassment. Why boo a bunch of kids, one of whom (Christopher Borque) is the son of a star who represented Canada in similiar international events. Bet he's real proud of his roots....

The "U.S. sucks" bit is unecessary and makes us look bad. Brutal and embarrassing.

No. 31 Author: rupperoni
US Sucks? That's great Canada. I'm glad we were gracious hosts here in North Dakota last year, our gracious crowds make yours look foolish. Every story I read about from this year has to do about bad Reffing or booing the young Americans.

No. 33 Author: drd6969
Real classy Vancouver. The "USA sucks" chants are really endearing. Grow up!!!!

No. 39 Author: boink57
I am a Canadian first and foremost, and while the USA is a good place to visit, I would not want to live there. However, the ignorence of the WJHC fans in Vancouver is getting out of hand. Cheer for the opposition in games involving Americans, but leave out the chants of U.S. Sucks and the like. That just shows a lack of class and sportsmanship. Save some of that enery and MAKE SOME NOISE in any of the games that involve the Canadian. The arenas when Canada is playing have been like morgues!! Go Canada Go!!!

No. 50 Author: Ewald88
Truly sad and embarrassing sportsmanship by Canadians. I would love to see coverage by Canadian press outlets if this crowd behavior had been reversed last year here in Grand Forks, ND with booing of the Canadian players and chanting Canada sucks. Why is it that the Canadian press is just letting this slide?? I have an American father and Canadian mother and I spend much time in both countries and I am frankly appalled and embarrassed by the actions of the fans in Vancouver. Nice, real nice message you're sending to the younger fans and players watching at the rink and on t.v. there. As for the game, it's disappointing, but also a first round tie with more games to be played and we didn't expect to steamroll like the Canadian team did last year in Grand Forks so I won't lose to much sleep tonight

No. 51 Author: mydoglouie
Not impressed with the people of BC/Vancouver showing a lack of class to our US neighbours. The US has a good team, full of skill. If your a fan of good hockey, than why are you booing. Leave the politics out of this!

No. 52 Author: jrcanuck
There is no doubt in my mind that the BC fans who Boo the Americans are doing so because of anti-Bush sentiments (Lumber agreement; Kyoto treaty; Iraq etc...) however, there is no room for that in hockey and especially when you boo kids. Cheer for Canada with some class. Tonight's game should be a great one with two excellent young teams. Go Canada!

http://tsn.ca/world_jrs/news_story/?ID=148852

read the comments.

Coach Walt Kyle was being diplomatic. Even the canadian fans acknowledge it is political anti-Americanism.

23. ROFL, man, I am sorry your team didn't live up to it's PR but
it is hockey, after all, and if you can't handle the rough and tumble game, maybe it would be better if you didn't watch it so you wouldn't get sooooo bent out of shape.

I find it interesting you are taking posters nattering on TSN as the definitive word from all Canadians, that is like me taking your posts as the definitive word of all Americans which I don't.

25. Thats exactly what about half of America acted like in the build up to war
I feel bad for the kids but face it Canada gets thrashed by America constantly.

ALso the last time I went to a hockey game here there was plenty of nasty ass slurs against them. Shit like this works both ways and America is acts no different. I feel for the kids but to broad brush teh whoel of Canada is patently wrong and is something the rw is known for.

10. The republicans have destroyed this country
Our constitution is now "just a piece of paper" in the words of our illicit president.
Our freedom has been traded in for a faux-religious fascism
and our values have been junked by pervasive right wing corruption.
This country is splitting at the seams with televangelized hatred
and the whole world is laughing because we so richly deserve it.
This is the price of our arrogance.

11. Our head exploded long ago
Pretty hard to keep watching the rape of Lady Liberty by a chimp.

USA now living behind the media curtain.
Funny is it not that Russia took down the iron curtain and China discarded their bamboom curtain and US retreat behind their Media curtain.

We can just watch and wonder when and finally when the American people wake up from this
high speed train driven by a mad chimp towards a destination that is totally without a rail connection.

Whee Trainwreck wont be pretty.

US can rattle their saber all they want.
It is over, US had lose the world respect as a leader
US now is just a big bully.

The hard earned reputation. The meaning of July 4th. All gone and destroy by a single mad chimp.
We watching now the destruction of the America we use to know and the evolution into a new America
What will the new America be like?
We know when 2006 ends.

Other countries deal with scandals all the time. If anything, it just shows these countries that we are no better than they are. That's the biggest thing to take from all of this.

Then again, maybe that's a good thing that can come out of this. No longer can the US claim to the moral high ground when dictating to other countries what we want them to do.
