14. Nah, but he has a point, and it's backed up by psychology |
|
Carol Gilligan did a lot of research on Freud's claim that women were more likely to lie because they had less sense of justice. What Gilligan found was that Freud's numbers were right enough, but his reasoning was wrong. Due to a number of psychological factors based on the differences in the way children were raised, women, according to Gilligan, had a higher "compassion factor," whereas men had a higher "justice factor." Meaning, men were more likely to see things as absolutely right or wrong based on some standard, but women were more likely to seek a compassionate solution to a conflict. So women would lie to keep from hurting someone (amongst other responses), whereas men were more likely to seek an absolute right solution. She used games as an example: boys were more likely to follow the rules, girls were more likely to alter the rules to prevent hurting someone's feelings.
A lot of her conclusions, and even moreso Freud's conclusions, were phrased as gender differences, but were really differences in the way boys and girls were raised in Freud's specific culture--boys and girls being isolated from the other gender at some point, for instance, and the mother raising the children while the father left the house and only came home in the evenings.
Sorry, I'm rambling again. :-)

9. Actually, women are less happy in marriage than men are, they just don't |
|
cheat as much.
Remember the happiness survey from some years back:
Most Happy Least Happy
Married Men Single Women Married Women Single Men
I'll have to Google it to get the exact numbers, but this was the order.

Women ought to cheat more so they'd be happier in marriage and wouldn't drive the men to cheat!! Works for me. :)

and the taking care of the children, they don't have time to cheat. You think we don't do all that on purpose?

Does it mean that men are innately more likely to cheat, or, more likely IMHO, does it mean that the gender stereotypes bombarded on people from birth cause some effect on sexual behavior.
