Fines Dropped Against Man Posting Anti-War Signs
Fines Dropped Against Man Posting Anti-War Signs

January 4, 2006

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. (AP) - A Kansas City suburb has dropped its prosecution of a man who was ticketed for anti-war yard signs and plans to review its sign ordinance.

David Quinly sought the help of the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and Western Missouri after losing an appeal in municipal court.

On Tuesday, Johnson County District Court Judge Steve Leben agreed to allow the city to dismiss Quinly's fine.

"It's recognition that you can't discriminate against people who want to engage in political speech,'' said attorney John
Simpson, who represented Quinly on behalf of the ACLU. "Now what we need to do is get the city of Prairie Village to change the ordinance themselves.''

1. The Heartland needs to wake up.
The rest of the country woke up and they are still dreaming in Bushcoland.

2. Wow, free speech on your own property: what a RADICAL concept.
Someone should write that down, and make it a LAW or something.

3. Okay, I used to live in that area. They'll get you for ANYTHING.
It's not just because the signs were anti-war. They would have asked anyone to take down pretty much any sign. It's not a sign-friendly neighborhood. They would have done the same thing with a pro-war sign, believe me.
