John Stewart to host Academy AWards
They moved this from LBN, so i'm posting this here unless dupe..

The long search for an Oscar host is over, with an official announcement from the academy expected to come early Thursday morning.

For the moment no one at AMPAS or involved with the production will confirm it, but word is that the job of hosting the 78th Academy Awards will go to Jon Stewart, the Emmy-winning writer-host of "The Daily Show" and a past host of the Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2002.

For the past couple months, Oscar producer Gil Cates' search for an emcee has sometimes seemed to belong under the "Daily Show"-style heading "Indecision 2005." Last year's host, Chris Rock, was not asked back; eight-time host Billy Crystal said he declined an invitation because of his busy schedule. Published reports claimed that negotiations were underway with Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin, though those were never confirmed.

1. ARRRRGH! My Daugher Is Going In My Place This Year
Chris Rock SUCKED...man do I feel ripped off, but I don't miss stressing about what to wear etc!

I told my 15 y/o she could go this year, my hub is an Academy voter so he gets to put in for tix (in the nosebleed balcony where the animators, makeup artists and camera/sound crew working joe member sit!)

At least she loves JS so I guess I should be a good mom and say, good for you, I'm so glad for you, but between you and I....ARRRRGH!!!

She's going to be so far away.

3. Well apparently it's not guaranteed yet, just rumor
but sounds so. I guess that's why they took it away LBN

Yeah, Stewart's awesome. He gets my vote for it, that's for sure

4. I'm somewhat unenthused
When Letterman signed on to host in '95, everyone was talking about how he would be awesome. He ended up giving a very weak performance, and I felt like all the hype was pointless. Chris Rock was similarly hyped last year. Rock did a passable job, but it was nothing special.

I think performers like Stewart and Letterman, who are used to breaking the rules on their own shows, are somewhat confined by the stuffy atmosphere of the Oscars. I guess I'll still watch, though.

12. I think you're right. But hopefully he will prove us wrong
I bet this is pissing off the right-wingers.

But, then again, what right do they have to complain? After all, they are always saying how left wing Hollywood is. Should this suprise them at all?
