Author of Bush's Brain Put On No-Fly list
Author of Bush's Brain Put On No-Fly list
by Maccabee
Thu Jan 05, 2006 at 06:51:58 AM PDT
From his bio at Huffington Post.

James Moore is an Emmy-winning former television news correspondent and the co-author of the bestselling, Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove Made George W. Bush Presidential. He has been writing and reporting from Texas for the past 25 years on the rise of Rove and Bush and has traveled extensively on every presidential campaign since 1976.

This author was placed on the no fly list. Two points: there's nothing you or I can do to help him but make this public, and two- we are all targets here.

James Moore
"BRANDED"

I made it a point to arrive very early at the airport. My reservation was confirmed before I left home. I went to the electronic kiosk and punched in my confirmation number to print out my boarding pass and luggage tags. Another error message appeared, "Please see agent."

I did. She took my Texas driver's license and punched in the relevant information to her computer system.

"I'm sorry, sir," she said. "There seems to be a problem. You've been placed on the No Fly Watch List."

"Excuse me?"

"I'm afraid there isn't much more that I can tell you," she explained. "It's just the list that's maintained by TSA to check for people who might have terrorist connections."

"You're serious?"

"I'm afraid so, sir. Here's an 800 number in Washington. You need to call them before I can clear you for the flight."

1. *snort*
I think the right-wing idiots would change their opinion on racial-profiling when they discover it's being used against white people :eyes:

2. I'm on a kind of no-fly list
No electronic check-in and I can't print my boarding passes at home. But I get to go after showing my ID.

denying liberties...for what? Because they can?
This man is no more a terrorist than I am.

26. 4 yr old in Houston makes the NoFly List !
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/20060105-1108-terrorlist-preschooler.html

""Edward Allen's reaction to being on the government's "no-fly" list should have been the tip-off that he is no terrorist.
"I don't want to be on the list. I want to fly and see my grandma," the 4-year-old boy said, according to his mother.""

Yes, winning that war on drugs and now that war on 'terrorism'...the BFEE are really winners. Everybody else is a loser. The New World Order, I mean.

14. Terrorism is defined as any action that seeks to exact political change.
That's the Patriot Act's definition, IIRC. So we are ALL terrorists in the government's view.

4. These bastards have us ALL on their little fucked up list.
Randi Rhodes said there's 80,000? 70,000?, 60,000?...something like that, names on the list. I'll bet you ANYTHING DU members are a HUGE part of that number.

TED KENNEDY was on that list and it took HIM 4 MONTHS to get his name removed! OURS will NEVER be removed from it, I'm afraid. We're taking a trip in June and I'm taking Obama's and Durbin's telephone numbers with me. This is ridiculous.

7. wouldn't be surprised if the 'big names' here are on the no-fly list
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 10:48 AM by phaseolus
Skinner and the others who run this site, and prominent users like MoPaul and Will Pitt and others that everyone knows.... but a lot of us fly under the radar.

I'm not on the list, and I fly a lot on business. I don't even get pulled aside for special screening any more, and that used to happen a lot since I often make flight arrangements on short notice.

Somewhere along the line, the busy people whose job it is to compile these lists must realize that we're just basically people who share our political opinions on a website, and we aren't a threat. It would be a HUGE undertaking to tie every DUer's screen name to a real-world identity, for no actual benefit. It won't happen... well, as long as we avoid slipping into a sort of East German Stasi situation where half the population spies on the other half for the party, anyway.

So I wouldn't worry *too* much. For now.

...and we need to make absolutely certain that a Republican Stasi doesn't grow & become entrenched.

Shortly before Randi took her break I remember she said she was going to check her FBI file. Did she ever tell about that? I haven't been able to listen lately.

I'm also going to MX in Feb., but I'm not anticipating any problems. You can bet I'll pitch a bitch if I encounter any.
Call my reps: DeLay, Cornyn, or KBH? I wish I could see them helping me out, but that's not gonna happen.

To spend my vacation bucks up here in Canada - and not travel south. It is kinda sad really because I have a new hobby that would theoretically take me south for seminars, competitions and training.

Guess my money will stay in Canada.

16. Someone needs to ask Bush the direct question. Does he put "political
enemies" on "no-fly" lists... or....is Bush somehow unaware that Rove is as nepharious as the day is long and perhaps Bush thinks Moore is somehow insane.

Which is it Bush?

Cause if Bush seriously, or an agent thereof making up the no-fly list...who would be somewhere in homeland security... if they think there is nothing out of the ordinary with Rove.. the country needs to know.

23. Good idea. I'll bet Helen Thomas would ask Simple Scotty
Great follow up question would be that if the president would put a political enemy on a no fly list do you think the American people will believe that he would not also illegally spy on them.

I just emailed this story to her. I love Helen Thomas. If anyone would dare to confront Scotty on this it's Helen.

25. No. The question should be asked to Bush alone. Scotty is expected
to lie his ass off. Someone needs to ask Bush if he is un-aware that Rove has issues.

17. FBI/CIA have all gone overboard in hiring conservatives into the ranks
Time Magazine August 4, 1997 article 'Kingdom Come' by D. Van Biema page 52 "...the FBI and CIA...have instituted Mormon recruitment plans"

That alone should show you the extent of hiring preference for conservatives, especially religious conservatives in the intelligence agencies. From the start the OSS and nascent CIA had their leadership cadre mainly of Knights of Malta: Wm 'Wild Bill' Donovan, James Jesus Angleton, Allen Dulles, Wm Colby, Wm Casey, Reinhard Gehlen (Op Paperclip'ed in), etc. etc.

Nowadays even the outed spys show this tendency, as with Robert Hanssen, the FBI's Opus Dei member and now resident of a federal penitentiary for spying.

With this conservative bias now 'built into' the security state, we now have technology like RFIDs along with an insidious 'background checking' service system connected to employment in America nowadays:

Total Surveillance
http://www.motherjones.com/interview/2005/12/albrecht.h ...

Couple this insidious technology with purposely erroneous background checks

Who is checking the background checkers?
http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1128/p13s02-wmgn.html

They've offshored, outsourced, and privatized TIA. Now all they have to do is fire you for being 'of the wrong political party' and put false information in your background data...and voila ! You've just created the most insidious terror project in the US ever.

Since TIA was offshored to Global Information Group, Ltd., in the Bahamas with Ben H. Bell III's company, you now must assume that ChoicePoint and the other database information providers to Global Information Group will 'get the data right'. If they don't you can end up just like the author of Bush's Brain. Screwed, glued, and tattooed.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=57078&mesg_id=57078

Seems to be a very hot topic -- getting lots of votes and replies...

I guess this really hits a nerve. Even conservatarians don't like the idea of "big government" telling them what to do.

Don't you feel safer now that Bush is making it hard for his political enemies to get on planes?

22. To me, one of the biggest issues of this is
How much money--marked for terrorism--is he spending to use as a political game of Dodge Ball?
He knows these people aren't terrorists, but it IS his opportunity to say "Gotcha and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it".
This kind of stuff needs to stop.
Too much money is being spent frivolously and needlessly just to give Georgie a few kicks.
