How many Liberal Celebrities actually run for office?
For all the whining the righties do about "Hollywood Liberals" how many left wing celebrities have actually run a serious campaign for political office in recent times?

Despite all of their griping about celebrities in politics, the GOP has given us:

Ronald Reagan (Actor)
Jack Kemp (Football Player)
J.C. Watts (Football Player)
Steve Largent (Football Player)
Arnold Schwarzenegger (Actor)

And now, Lynn Swann (Football Player) has announced his candidacy for governor of PA.

Have there been a like number of famous lefties that have run for office, or is the right just saying that if you're famous and liberal, you shouldn't have a political opinion?

1. Don't Forget:
-Fred Grandy (actor, "Gopher" from The Love Boat), congressman from Iowa (?)
-Fred Thompson (actor), congressman from Tennessee (?)
-Clint Eastwood (actor, mayor of Carmel, CA). I'm pretty sure it was as a 'Pub, though don't count on it.

I've often wondered exactly the same thing - it's another obvious example of "what they say" v. "what's apparent from the facts".

There's no doubt that most Hollywood creative types are liberals to some degree or another, but they don't seem to convert that to actual political office.

However, there is at least one Democrat "actor": Ben Jones served as a Georgia Dem (he played "Cooter" on The Dukes of Hazard).

3. republicans
are naive and stupid enough to fall for celebrity. i'd like to think democrats look for more qualifications than the ability to throw a dumb football.

6. The only "lib" celeb candidate I can recall is
"Miss Jane Hathaway" of Beverly Hillbillies fame.

Of course, the Repukes got Jed to do an anti-Jane commercial - "You know, that (forget her real name) is really " (really is drawn out in Jed Clampett's drawl) " LIBERAL." Surprised he didn't call her a Lesbian, despite the fact that she always had the hots for Jethro in the show . . .
