Slain marine's sister follows him into the Corps
After reading this, I don't know quite what to say.

From today's Cincinnati Enquirer http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060105/NEWS01/601050362

Slain Marine's sister follows him into Corps
'He realized we have so many freedoms,' Sarah Dyer says

By Christy Arnold
Enquirer staff writer

EVENDALE - Sarah Dyer and her brother Christopher were small soldiers, wearing camouflage and fighting enemies on an imaginary battlefield where roadside bombs don't kill - at least, not in their Evendale back yard.

"I wanted to emulate my brother in every way," Sarah said.

Her brother joined the Marine Corps Reserves and planned to enroll in the honors program at Ohio State University this month.

But Lance Cpl. Christopher J. Dyer, 19, died along with four other Southwest Ohio Marines when a roadside bomb exploded Aug. 3 near Haditha, Iraq....

1. Sad.
But a Darwin Award might be in order.

"I know that's just because I'm naïve," she said. "I think I'm at that point where I think I'm invincible. ... If the United States needs us and calls us up, we'll be there."

The United States isn't calling for her sacrifice. The Bush Crime Family is.

2. Sarah and Christopher are stellar exemplars of why nations go to war.
Because those who lead us into war know how easy it is to fool enough of the people enough of the time.

Tragic. I hope she comes back intact. But, somehow, I doubt it. In her mind, she'll still be playing "hero" as the small child in camouflage (WTF?) in her back yard.

3. What a fool.
Serving in America's armed forces is an honorable profession, but in my opinion, this is not America.

I wouldn't serve in the Bushco military any more than I would serve in Stalin's.

This is what people like Schultz fail to grasp. This government is neither legitimate, nor merely corrupt. It is a fascist coup d'etat that has supplanted the legitimate government of the US and immediately began dismantling what was left of this country. And their deliberately allowing terrorists to attack NYC and the pentagon was the last straw for me. I've believed it from day one, and I believe it more strongly than ever now.

4. Self-selection out of the gene pool. What a goddamned fool.

From the article:
She's ready for deployment, whenever that might occur, and she said she's not scared.

"I know that's just because I'm naïve," she said. "I think I'm at that point where I think I'm invincible. ... If the United States needs us and calls us up, we'll be there."

Sweeeet. By the way, I talked to your brother a few weeks after he died. He said he doesn't want you to wind up dead like him. He appreciates your desire to serve the country but hopes you can find something a little less likely to leave your parents with two dead children. Enclosed are a list of jobs that allow you to serve your country but do not require doing it in the world's most dangerous operational theater- his words not mine. I told him, "Hey, maybe she'll just lose a few legs!". He's adamant about it- something about living long enough to do the things he can't now. Oh, he sends his love and says stop watching Fox News. Actually, he shouted it.

5. That idiot will kill innocent Iraqis now, will have a clear conscience
because she "only followed orders" and expect to be called a hero, and a hero at least she'll be called indeed, since this seems to be the American synonym for "soldier".

6. Not for long. Very few humans can commit atrocities without going mad.
And mad she will go as her paradigms are destroyed and rebuilt in front of her own eyes. Either she will reject all her experiences completely or she will grow into a more thoughtful and understanding person. Too bad she's got to grease a bunch of Iraqis, some innocent, to do it.
