Fred (Totally F@#$#D-up) Phelps happy about miner's deaths
is there anything this scumbag won't blame on us homos?

http://www.goodasyou.org/good_as_you/2006/01/westboro_contin.html

Following up on their initial mine tragedy-based deity thanking, the "fag-hating" folks at Westboro Baptist have today released a new missive expressing gratitude to "the man upstairs" for the tragic deaths of the twelve miners. Announcing that they will picket the victims' funerals, the WBC nuts say

4. Oh, for pity's sake.
Phelps and his mongrel followers are the ones who are a shame and disgrace. Remember the 'Clockwork Orange' scene when McDowell was forced to watch film while his eyelids were pinned open? Just punishment for Phelps would be having him in that position watching 'Brokeback Mountain' for a year or five. It's a great movie, it'll withstand the horror of being seen by slime.

31. In Phelps' mind
In Phelps' mind, from that I can discern, any tragedy, any disaster is God's ongoing vengeance against the country as a whole for its ungodly ways. Fred Phelps' God is a sociopath along the lines of the nutball who says, "Be my best friend or I'll kill you." Needless to say, it's not the sort of God that any sane person would want to be associated with.

But because he dresses up his dementia in the language of religion, folks are reluctant to take him on. Phelps alone, in his mind, is godly; Phelps and his followers only, are to be spared the wrath from above, that just brimming over waiting to be poured out at any moment. He's a cult leader and his followers are merely pawns for his delusions. There is nothing in his "gospel" that anyone outside his compound would recognize as containing love or compassion. For Phelps, God's love is solely reserved for the folks who have earned it, and the only compassion available is how harshly God will punish those who don't toe the line as drawn by Phelps in Phelps' sole discretion.

Please actually know what real Christian's are about and people like Phelps and Robertson and "wolves in sheep clothing" are about. I as a liberal and a Christian find that offensive. Christian's need to get back to what's important to Christian's and what Jesus actually talked about: helping those less fortunate, enviornment, elderly, etc. Not gay people and abortion.

Fred and his followers believe that every disaster that occurs, natural, or caused by man, is punishment

The victims don't have to be homosexual, but since they are not a member of Fred's F#&ked-Up Flock,
they obviously condone it, and thus; are deserving of their fate.

Apparently, there was a Phelps-like "preacher" in Sweden. Sweden is unlike the United States; Sweden won't put up with Phelps-like asshats. So, they arrested the guy on charges of inciting hatred. (In Sweden, Bibles aren't Get Out of Jail Free cards the way they are in Bush's America.)

Phelps actually flew to Sweden to kill the king over this. He did not succeed.

Of course, if he HAD succeeded, this is who would have replaced him:

Crown Princess Victoria is kind, friendly and probably even less tolerant of Phelps' bullshit than the King.

37. It would be much more fun,
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 12:40 PM by kgfnally
and in acceptably poorer taste, to toast his death with champagne. In full formal attire.

You know, have a nice, linen tablecloth, filet mignon, shrimp, caviar, etc., a string quartet... make it a fucking banquet. With only the celebratory allowed in, of course...

We could put it in full view, with microphones spattered about the table to pick up our Fred-denigrating words and fling them, apelike, via directed-sound speakers, toward the "mourners". (we could target the kids' ears with "your gramps is burning in hell, where the flesh of his soul will melt forever" as a special treat.)

Oh, we can have signage, of course: "FRED PHELPS DEATH CELEBRATION BANQUET" and a big red arrow pointing toward us, with another big red arrow and a sign saying "BUNCH OF SICK FUCKS MOURNING ANOTHER SICK FUCK" pointing toward them.

I'm only being half-sarcastic.

or kept on the mantle.

For all that I believe he is genuinely mentally ill, and for all that he believes that he has caused people pain at their most vulnerable time (that IS his MO), he has actually helped by making people who wouldn't normally notice take a side and sometimes think about their preconceptions.

If it ever occurs to him, it must burn him up.

Even half his kids and kin have broken ties with him. What a sorry waste of protoplasm. People like him (cotton mather, the various bishops of the inquisitions) have always been dangerous. Today people like him are just laughingstock.

And your death'll come soon

And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead"

Let's see how the Phelps clan likes it when people protest at THEIR funerals!

77. God doesn't hate anybody
We used to live near Topeka. Phelps is truly, amazingly, breathtakingly whacko. He is also a lawyer (although I believe disbarred. . . ). Several of his children are lawyers as well, and Topeka has stopped fighting them, in hopes that if they ignore him he will go away. His congregation is small, and primarily his family. A concerted effort to counter-protest, by a large number of Topekans, is in order. They might not be able to stop him, but the rest of the world needs to know that he does not speak for Topeka.

My husband used to have a t shirt that said: God doesn't hate anyone, but he ain't too fond of Fred.

59. Unfortunately, a lot of "Christians" in the United States
give a bad name to a very small number who actually follow the teachings of Christ. "Christianity" in this country has become a bully pulpit for the right wing. Right-wing "Christians" are also following the psychopathic * administration off a cliff and dragging the rest of us with them.

I don't have a lot of respect for this country's "Christians." There are some decent Christians on DU, but I have yet to meet a "Christian" in real life that isn't a right-wing bushbot or adherent to some other form of demagoguery. It makes me sad and confused because I really don't like conflict, yet almost everyone I know is a *-supporting, right-wing "Christian." I don't know what to do about my mixed emotions and the obvious fact that these people are leading us into fascism.

66. As a Christian myself yes
I agree. My grandmother on my dad's side made a good point about all this once: she wondered how many actually read their Bible's or just went by what a "preacher" said or another Christian book?

79. It's really quite sad. And I believe it has contributed to a rift even
here on DU between Christians and non-Christians. I was reading a few threads last night that made me nearly despair. I honestly believe there is nothing out there to justify belief in a god or gods, but I don't want to feel the hostility I sometimes feel toward religionists. :( The right wing and religious crazies started it, but now the deep division has found its way to every corner of our culture.

Yes, we can agree to disagree on some things, but now everything has taken on the feeling of a fight to the death. I've certainly felt it. I don't know what to do with the way I sometimes feel toward religionists, except occasionally take a step back, like I'm doing now, and hope reason prevails.

Thanks a lot, shrub. You've managed to fracture us into many pieces. Divide and conquer is easy. :(

86. Amen
My grandmother is probably lives her life the closest to Christ's tenets compared to anyone I know. Yet, she hasn't been in a church for anything besides a wedding or a funeral in more than 40 years. I asked her once (when I was in a churchgoing phase because of brain-washing about hell) why she didn't go to church. Her reply (paraphrased): Why should I go sit with those hyprocrites who care more about what a person's wearing than they do about the word of the Lord, when I can talk to Jesus right here?

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

72. Apparently not
Goes way back. Check this article out I found: http://www.logcabinwa.com/archive/200010251159.shtml

And apparently once he even ran for president under the democratic party! And he and Al Gore are pictured as good friends. I don't know if Gore is still friends with him or not but the article talks about how Gore, at least back than, was against gay marriage and abortion and is (or perhaps I guess I should say "was" since I haven't heard) friends with Phelps. So it obviously isn't a put-on.

It may have started out as a genuine detestable hatred of homosexuals but now it's just a show. Like the circus or Andy Kaufman. You know the best way to get people like this to go away? Ignore them. The best way you can punish them? Laugh at them and then ignore them. You have the power to make them irrelevant or you can give them power by paying attention to them.

71. These people are ugly through and through.
They came here when a soldier died and protested outside the church on the day of his funeral. What was cool was a group of anti-war protesters stood silently in front of the homophobes so that they were not visible from the street or church. A few signs held over head were all that could be seen.

I don't think the ugly ones should be kept from protesting, but maybe it would be better done in front of the WH in memory of Gannon/Guckert and his skip through those hallowed halls.

Anyway, the hate these people show is a sure sign that they are gonna go to hell in a hurry. Do ya spose dubya & co will be there throwing petals in their path?
