Which Tinfoil theories have been proven credible over the past 6 years?
Is there any consensus here at DU? Have any theories been proven true? Just wondering, I'll leave it to the experts to sort it out. Thanks.

2. Bush outright lied about WMD's
At one point, that was considered tinfoil, when people were still giving him the benefit of the doubt for receiving bad intelligence.

3. Funny you should mention Tinfoil...
I was just pondering the fact that it is apparent that Abromoff & Co. were not above using violence to achieve their ends. I wonder if the following fits into the whole story in any way? It would not come as a shock to me if it did.

5. No idea of number but in IMHO, a lot of old ones
have come back to life with added force. I for one just pooh-poohed all tinhat theories until 2004. Then, before my eyes, I saw a mass conspiracy in the media. It was clear as day. Since then, I have come to believe in conspiracy theories regarding the Kennedy assassination and other things that I used to think were just too out there.

9. we'll never know for sure They are pretty good at coverups and stonewalls
but a lot of us can see with our own eyes and are afflicted with common sense. If it flies more like a cruise missile than a 747 and then the evidence disappears, to determine what happened for sure, well--

We will never know for sure because THE EVIDENCE DISAPPEARED AND THE INVESTIGATION NEVER HAPPENED.

Is it too much to ask a forensic team to come in and PROFESSIONALLY investigate the murder of almost 3000 people in a place of business?

Apparently. That's why all the pieces of the WTC were quickly shipped out of the country, before investigators could get a look at the "faulty beams." THAT makes me suspicious. Will I ever know WHY???? Apparently not.

We're all in the same boat. When the authorites are ruthless and corrupt, nobody has a chance.

12. My guess is about 60-80% of our gut-level assuptions, followed by research
and wide-range knowledge (between us all)...

I prefer to call it open-minded speculation, brain-storming...rather than 'tin-foil.

Engineers and scientists would never invent or change anything if they didn't "brain-storm" or "tin-foil" new or possible "out there" assumptions not yet discussed or tried.

16. In September 2000 (yes, 2000!) I predicted that if Junior were elected ...
... we'd be in a shooting war in South Asia and/or the Middle East! Afghanistan and Iraq were at the VERY TOP of my list. I predicted that this military action would be precipitated by a BIG event which would energize people in the US ... forming a mob, in effect.

I predicted this a full year before September 11th and did so ON AN ISP's (ATT@Home) NEWS GROUP in writing. I was sneered at.

I was dead nuts RIGHT ON.

(I believe 'Tempest' - the DUer who led me here - might be able to verify this. He was on that newsgroup.)

17. How about this one...
...an oldy but a goody. Roosevelt knew about Pearl Harbor and did nothing to stop it, knowing it would galvanize a strongly isolationist US into WWII against the Germans.

http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=103

"At issue is American foreknowledge of Japanese military plans to attack Hawaii by a submarine and carrier force 59 years ago. There are two questions at the top of the foreknowledge list: (1) whether President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his top military chieftains provoked Japan into an “overt act of war” directed at Hawaii, and (2) whether Japan’s military plans were obtained in advance by the United States but concealed from the Hawaiian military commanders, Admiral Husband E. Kimmel and Lieutenant General Walter Short so they would not interfere with the overt act.

The latter question was answered in the affirmative on October 30, 2000, when President Bill Clinton signed into law, with the support of a bipartisan Congress, the National Defense Authorization Act. Amidst its omnibus provisions, the Act reverses the findings of nine previous Pearl Harbor investigations and finds that both Kimmel and Short were denied crucial military intelligence that tracked the Japanese forces toward Hawaii and obtained by the Roosevelt Administration in the weeks before the attack."

-snip-

"As I explained to a policy forum audience at The Independent Institute in Oakland, California, which was videotaped and telecast nationwide over the Fourth of July holiday earlier this year, my research of U.S. naval records shows that not only were Kimmel and Short cut off from the Japanese communications intelligence pipeline, so were the American people. It is a coverup that has lasted for nearly 59 years.

Immediately after December 7, 1941, military communications documents that disclose American foreknowledge of the Pearl Harbor disaster were locked in U.S. Navy vaults away from the prying eyes of congressional investigators, historians, and authors. Though the Freedom of Information Act freed the foreknowledge documents from the secretive vaults to the sunlight of the National Archives in 1995, a cottage industry continues to cover up America’s foreknowledge of Pearl Harbor."

Does this sound like, oh, I don't know, allowing 9/11 to happen so that you can "catapult the propaganda."

18. Bush had more than enough intel to stop 9/11
You can still find columns before the 9/11 commission when right wingers said anyone who even suggested that was a mental patient and a traitor.

Righties probably still believe that.

But the evidence was on national television when Condi talked about that August 2001 PDB, and the various field agents and even foreign intelligence officials have publicly stated the useful information they passed along.

The other shoe to drop: it was intentional ignorance, then especially in terms of what went on with air defenses and insider trading, that they were involved.

1) The invasion of Iraq was going ahead no matter what
2) there would be no WMD
3) there would be no "cakewalk" - it would be guerrilla warfare
4) torture at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo
5) Bush would win in 2004 no matter what the polls said

etc etc

on edit: not to mention convenient "al-Qaida #3 capture" during the '04 Democratic Convention and Bin Laden's guest appearance just before the Nov '04 election.

21. White House officials did indeed blow cover of CIA agent Plame and lie
Right up until the Libby indictment, many right wingers were still proclaiming White House innocence and suggesting that her identity was common knowledge or that journalists or her own husband were the leakers.
What we have found out so far regarding the involvement of Libby and others tends to lead credence to tin foil theories that WH may have had deeper motives in the leak than simply 'discrediting' Joe Wilson.

24. The idea of a multi-arm octopus behind government corruption...
everytime Tweety uses the work "octopus" in describing the Abramoff conspiracy I have to laugh. Now if only they would connect the dots to the "shadow government." The only one brave enough in the MSM to touch on that was Bill Moyers, many years ago:
