O'Lielly declares "secular fatwa" on NYT Rich and Keller.
From the January 3 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, which featured Fox News' Fox & Friends co-host E.D. Hill:

O'REILLY: All right, that's the no-spin news. And there's a whole bunch of stuff going to happen next week with the Alito hearings in the Senate and all of that. But conjecture is conjecture -- we don't do it -- let's just deal with reality. Last night on the TV side, I issued a fatwa -- do you know what a fatwa is?

HILL: Yeah, a religious edict.

O'REILLY: Yeah, but it wasn't religious; it was a secular edict --

HILL: Okay.

O'REILLY: -- against the --

HILL: It was an O'Reilly edict.

O'REILLY: -- the "hate-Bush" press, the personal attack people. And I said if you continue to do it, then we're going to lay out what you do in your life on the air. Now, I don't want to do that -- I don't want to do it, and I made it quite clear that I don't want to do it -- but enough is enough, and it has to stop, and it's going to stop.

The New York Times is the worst offender. They just will attack people personally when they -- they don't have to. Stay on the issues. If the American public feels that the Bush administration is dishonest or corrupt, the American public will deal with them through their senators and congresspeople. And they have in the polls already. You don't need to go in with cheap-shot garbage, and false reporting, and stacking the deck, and all of that. You know, let's be fair.

6. That mofo had better be VERY careful if he doesn't want to get sued.
The "hate bush press" that he is talking about in many cases may not be public figures. This means the misreporting he is famous for will get his fat blotchy ass burned with another lawsuit.

7. I'd love it
if someone from here got on O'Leily's show, gushing about what a good job Bill does, especially in supporting the troops by going to USO tours-how you'd heard he did a Saddam impersonation, etc, etc--just to see what the weasel had to say.

8. seeing as how Letterman handed o'lielly
his ass about 'the war on christmas', I would think o'lielly would get a hint. Didn't he threaten 2 publish a list on his website naming people HE decided had committed some mythic infraction. Whatever happened to that?

9. Making personal threats over political opinion? McCarthy reincarnated.
But seriously, this asshole is nuts and becoming dangerous.
He is advocating dark methods of dealing w/his perceived political enemies (loads of 'em).

What will happen first? O'Lielly will go apoplectic and have a spectacular meltdown,
OR
Someone he declares one of his cute terroristic "fatwas" against gets seriously hurt?

10. Boston University should denounce this netwit demagogue
O'Reilly went to school there, and BU loves to clang the publicity bell about what a wonderful ALUM they have in this propagandist.

But then again, BU has always had a hard right slant.

11. One set of rules for neocons - one set of rules for their victims. Who has
been leading the culture of personal attacks? Rove. and now that people in the media are looking into the patterns of behaviour of Bush and the neos - it is time to cry like a bunch of babies.
