2. My Health insurance went up
20%, my gas & electric bill tripled for the same period the previous year ($389.00); my rent went up by $100.00; food prices have skyrocketed, interest rates are rising, my business is down 35%. I know I am having a good time.

I know this does not reply to how it is in my state, but I just had to bitch about it.

working two or three small-scale, part-time jobs, no (or limited) benefits, much higher costs for food, gas, utilities

meanwhile, houses stay on the market longer and sell for lower prices.

6. The economy IS getting better.
...according to the indicators, at least (which is how they gauge the economy).

The issue is that the money isn't being redistributed in the way it used to. It's being concentrated at the upper income levels and in corparations, not making its way down to the economically less-well-off.

So, they're technically right by definition.

bringing in temps. no big pay raises or bonuses, but they are spending a lot on equipment and r&d.

16. No They're Not
The indicators are not showing signs of improvement. That's just spin. They have conveniently changed the definitions of "good" to make these weak indicators sound better than they are. Other than total inflation rate, this economy is no better than that the Repubs railed against when Ford and Carter were in office.

They are technically WRONG by definition. They are simply lying about what those metrics indicate.

11. Then why has the Dow stayed the same for the past five years?
Between 10.3k to 10.9k five years staying the fucking same when, in five years it should be growing somewhat, if indeed, "the economy is getting better"!!!!

When Bush took office in Jan 2001, the Dow was 11,351.

13. Utter Tripe
This economy is at least 1.2 sigma below the mean of the last 30 years for everything but total inflation. Nominal growth, real growth, unemployment, median household income, savings rate, inflation beyond CPI, %under poverty line, %of GDP as GS (too high), % of GDP as C (too low), and a few others.

The whole "economy is humming" is a bunch of nonsense unsupported by the facts and rational analysis.

I don't think you read my post correctly. I'm saying the economy is statistically provably horrible. You need to calm down a little. I've been here for 5 years. I'm no freeper.

19. Just Overreacted A Bit, Huh?
No problem. I do quarterly reviews of econometric data against models that i built 22 years ago and have revised about very 3 years or so since. I'm completely against the supply-side, low revenue and count on future growth philosophy. It has never worked before and never will.

21. Economy is Terrible Unless You Are Rich

I could give you a hundred reasons why the economy is terrible for the average working man, but it'a all been posted before. The short answer is the economy is terrible for everyone but the wealthy. Gas prices are up, wages are down, natural gas prices have doubled, health insurance costs are going crazy (if you even have it), state taxes are up, property taxes are up, food costs are up, etc. etc.

If you adjust wages for inflation and the cost of energy increases you are making the same as you did in 1980, yet the corporate media wants you to believe the economy is doing great.

23. Where's The Laugh Track?
My bets are half the audience are bussed in Repugnican hacks to fill up the first couple rows so the applause get heard...the back rows are the traders laughing their rich asses off at this asshat.

BTW...last week, the fukstick claimed there were 200,000 new jobs added in December. Of course, he'll quote the numbers that are made up, not the real ones. "Re-adjusted" figures that came out yesterday showed the gain at around 110,000...and that's for the xmas season...most was part-time. Or, that included the increased hirings in military related industries. If you can mix up a nasty batch of phospherous, you're very much in demand.

These speeches have ZERO effect. You don't even see them used for more than a quick soundbite on a couple of newscasts. By this evening the asshat will be back in his little room hiding from reality. It's easy to say the crap he does when you live in the bubble world he always has.
