CNN is reporting Jose Padilla will be appearing in a Miami courtroom TODAY
Sources: 'Enemy combatant' on flight to Miami
Padilla scheduled to appear in civilian court today

Thursday, January 5, 2006; Posted: 3:45 p.m. EST (20:45 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Terror suspect Jose Padilla is on a military plane headed to Miami, Florida, where he is expected to make a court appearance this afternoon, two government sources told CNN.

Padilla, a U.S. citizen, is being transferred from military to Justice Department custody to face terrorism charges in federal court.

He was arrested at O'Hare Airport in May 2002. President Bush designated him an "enemy combatant" the following month, and he was transferred to military custody.

He has been held at a military brig in Charleston, South Carolina, for almost four years.

The transfer comes after the Supreme Court on Wednesday granted a request from the government authorizing it. A federal appeals court had previously blocked the move.

2. He had some association with a mosque in FL, unclear exactly what...
snip from Wiki:

He went to the Masjid Al-Iman mosque in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with Adham Amin Hassoun, who at that time was the registered agent for Benevolence International Foundation, a charity which U.S. investigators have accused of funding terrorist activities. Padilla and Hassoun became friends. U.S. authorities accuse Hassoun of consorting with radical Islamic fundamentalists, including Al-Qaeda. Hassoun was arrested in 2002 for overstaying his visa.
