Some people and groups tend to benefit during times of strife and disaster, and I am sure what I list below is nothing new to the majority of those that frequent DU, however I had a thought the other day about a new way to look at certain things that have happened in the past 5 years.
First, let's look at 9/11 and who benefited the most. The obvious answer is the PNAC as they got their "catalyzing Pearl Harbor type event" that has allowed them to implement their longstanding plans to take the steps towards a Pax Americana and rebuild the military for aggressive use. Another huge beneficiary is bunnypants' administration itself. At the time of 9/11 his poll numbers were tanking and after his loud horn moment he rode the boost he got all the way to a second term (albeit with some help from election fraud.) Lastly, other beneficiaries were all things republican. They rode their phony image as strong on defense to regain the Senate in 2002 and increase their majority in 2004 (albeit again with some help from election fraud.) Attendant with running everything comes the desire for access to power from lobbyists, the media and anyone who wants anything, like moths to a candle.
Now, let's take a look at the Iraq War. While all of the above have benefited for much the same reason (with the side benefit of defense contractors raping the treasury) the biggest winner may be Al Qua ida and the Fundamental Islamic Movement. They had someone else get rid of the most non-fundamentalist regime in the mideast, they have gotten a HUGE recruiting boost, they have gained an active training ground, they got the US airbase out of Saudi Arabia and in the future they may very well realize their dreams of an entirely unstable region ripe for revolutions throughout. Other winners here have been the Saudis and the oil industry with the price of their product more than doubling.
We all know the bush clan and the bin Ladens have done business together for decades, is this whole thing maybe just another joint venture?
I realize I am preaching to the choir for the most part but maybe for once in his life lil georgie has been a success at something.
