CNN headline:Sen. Clinton fundraising group fined over Hollywood gala
In light of the Abramoff scandal, I have to question the timing of this headline on CNN webpage. A bit of the old DEMOCRATS DO IT TOO bullshit. Watch for a steady stream of these types of stories.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A campaign fundraising group for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has agreed to a $35,000 fine for underreporting thousands of dollars spent on a lavish Hollywood fundraiser in 2000, the man who bankrolled the event said.

The organization, New York Senate 2000, agreed to a federal finding that it failed to report $721,895 spent on the fundraiser to boost the former first lady's campaign for Senate, according to paperwork provided by Peter F. Paul, who helped finance the star-studded gala that drew Cher, Diana Ross, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.

5. This brings up a larger issue: SAY NO TO HOLLYWOOD. PERIOD.
I know we are like minded politically, but the Hollywood connection hurts us badly when we try to spread a populist economic message. It is difficult to denounce CEOs that make over $25 million while we are going arm and arm with the Hollywood elite. Virtually everyone hates celebrities and the well publicized connections that Democrats have to them hurt us horribly. I remember back in 2000 when Gore was preaching "The people not the powerful" but was attending a well publicized Hollywood fundraiser the next week. That appearance hurt that message very badly. We must reject their money and avoid being seen with them at all costs. The money we get from them does not even come close to the damage they do to our credibility regarding our economic message.

6. "Everyone hates celebrities"? Huh? Tell that to the people who publish
People, and US and Entertainment Weekly and all those other magazines and tabloids who make $$$$$$$$ from people who want to read more about celebrities.

8. they want to read about the woes of celebrities
that has nothing to do with liking them and everything to do with a bit of Schadenfreude.

9. And they want to see what they wear and who they date and
what they eat and who does their hair...you get the picture. People are endlessly FASCINATED by celebrities.

18. That doesn't mean they like them.
Also, the number "fascinated" with celebrities is a only a small, albeit active portion of the population. The majority of Americans hates the Hollywood culture with a passion.

17. That doesn't mean they like them.
People love it when celebrities have major scandals or commit crimes and why do you think that is? Do a poll of Americans and see what the favorability rating of the average Hollywood actor or actress is. I dare you to get a number higher than 20%. People despise Hollywood culture.

Again, with the "it makes us look bad" stuff. You don't see the plan? Man, as soon as little Georgie got in - all the media pundits started dogging Hollywood, anything and everything they did, putting them down, calling them names, etc. - and can you guess why?? Well because they knew Hollywood would never be behind them - so discredit them right off the bat. Duh. And yet in Katrina - who was there to help? Sean Penn, Oprah, Dr. Phil (ok not hollywood necessarily), Harry Conick, etc., etc. If it were not for Hollywood right now - these people in New Orleans & Mississippi would be way shit out of luck instead of just shit out of luck.

Edited to add: The RW would latch on to them like glue if they were in their ballpark, but their not - why, because most artistic types are right-brained and and too smart for their shit - they all remember the McCarthy era where everyone was a Commie and blacklisted - and remember - the shit this administration spews is geared towards the left-brained Reptilian mind.

CEO's make $25 million off of their employees backs - actors make millions due to the shows advertising. Big difference there.

19. Some actors give major money to charity.
Many others only give in the tens of thousands. There are major companies that give huge money to charity as well for image purposes and I bet that's why most actors do too. Actors, actresses, movie producers, directors, etc are almost all totally self-absorbed, greedy, arrogant, and dishonest. These are not friends of the working classes. It's time that we got back in touch with the real labor unions and not the Screen Actors Guild.

20. Yeah, but look whose side the Corporate Media is on...
There will always be a feud between Dems and Thugs, you're absolutely right. However, the fact that MSM is on the side of the rethugs is the fact that they control EVERYTHING in Washington now! How can the Dems ever win when the playing field is so perverted by the media?

SCREW CNN and all other "major news outlets". This stuff just chaps my ass to no end!! :grr::mad::grr::mad:

11. I think they'll be playing this sort of thing up, yes, but
Why in the hell would Hillary's fundraiser's do something like this? They know they're going to be after her a** about anything they can find.

There is so much at stake for our country....I have no sympathy for Democrats who get involved in scandals. They're hurting our side at a crucial time in history when we can't afford a speck of scandal.
