Microsoft has released their WMF patch
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 05:01 PM by Oreo
Topic: MS06-001

Microsoft announced that it would release a security update to help protect customers from exploitations of a vulnerability in the Windows Meta File (WMF) area of code in the Windows operating system on Tuesday, January 2, 2006, in response to malicious and criminal attacks on computer users that were discovered last week.

Microsoft will release the update today on Thursday, January 5, 2006, earlier than planned.

Microsoft originally planned to release the update on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 as part of its regular monthly release of security bulletins, once testing for quality and application compatibility was complete.
However, testing has been completed earlier than anticipated and the update is ready for release.

1. It's already out
Just do a Micrsoft of Windows Update and you should be able to grab it - required a reboot on my system.

5. It's not supported anymore
Most places are saying 98 isn't vulnerable unless it has specific software installed.

9. It may update but I'd bet...
That any updates that were installed were from 2004 or earlier.

6. Wiindows 98 is very very low risk
So I wouldn't worry if I was you.

The reason Windows 98 is low risk is because not many computers are left have that OS. I know mine is very low risk as it has Windows 98 1st ed. on it. However, my laptop has XP Professional on it.

8. Wonder if the patch has something in it that will help Agent Mike
read our e-mails. Bill Gates has bought an awful lot of access over the years.
