Write your senators about Alito, ASAP
I posted this earlier, but here it is for the evening crew. If anyone wants to use this, be my guest.
Here is a letter I sent to Sen. Feingold.

Dear Senator Feingold;

In view of the fact that President Bush has admitted to breaking the law concerning warrantless wiretaps 30 times per his address on national television, and by extension has violated his oath of office 30 times, I feel that the Senate should not consider his nominee to the Supreme Court until an investigation is made into his conduct.
It's ludicrous that an admitted criminal should be allowed to appoint someone to the Supreme Court, the highest court in our land.
Not only that, in the last few days he has made 17 recess appointments which should be put on hold until he is investigated.
It is incumbent upon the congress to either hold open, televised hearings into the matter or appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate before any more action is taken about Judge Alito.

Sincerely,

Signature

1. Totally agree shraby......check this out
Investigate Wiretapping Scandal Before Alito Hearings--ACTION ALERT

ACTFORCHANGE ACTIVISM UPDATE: January 4, 2006

You are receiving this newsletter because you have previously
taken action on ActForChange in support of progressive values.

IN THIS BULLETIN:

*FEATURED ACTION: Tell Senator Feinstein --
Investigate Wiretapping Scandal Before Alito Hearings

** FEATURED ACTION **

Investigate Wiretapping Scandal Before Alito Hearings

President Bush recently admitted that -- in what seems to be a clear
violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) -- he
authorized electronic eavesdropping on Americans without ever seeking
the warrants legally required under FISA. Americans are justifiably
outraged -- and calls for hearings to investigate this matter are
coming from both sides of the aisle.

Tell Senator Feinstein to postpone the Alito
hearings so the Judiciary Committee can get to the bottom of the
wiretapping scandal immediately:

However, despite clear evidence of what may well be an impeachable
offense, the first item on the Senate Judiciary Committee's agenda in
the new legislative year remains confirmation hearings for Samuel
Alito to possibly join the Supreme Court. A senator from your state of
California serves on the Judiciary Committee and has the power to
change this schedule.

There's no need to rush Alito through the confirmation process.
Justice O'Connor has indicated her willigness to continue serving
until her replacement is ready to be sworn in. Fundamental questions
about the legality of the President's actions are still outstanding,
and need to be resolved immediately.

Tell Senator Feinstein that no one
is above the law -- and Judge Alito can wait a few weeks for Congress
to use its power of checks and balances and defend our Constitution:
http://www.workingforchange.com/activism/action.cfm?ite...

Our civil liberties have been fundamentally and systematically
violated by a President and administration who seem to believe the
rule of law does not apply to them. Holding the President accountable
before the law is certainly a more urgent matter than replacing a
still-serving Supreme Court justice.

Tell Senator Feinstein that we need to
get our priorities straight and get to the bottom of illegal
eavesdropping before the Alito hearings:

Then, please forward this newsletter to everyone you know in California
to help spread the word about this important campaign!

THANK YOU for working to build a better world,

2. Great Idea from Majority Report --
CONSERVATIVES SAY FILIBUSTER!

Go here. Then change the body of the email to an anti-Alito message. Take local info posted here to make the letter authentic, then send! Viola! An anti-strip-search Sammy A-lie-to email from a conservative group.

The fun? I bet RightMarch.com will keep count of the number of emails 'their' folks send their Senators - ;)

3. I wrote my representatives
Here is what I said:

I am writing you concerning the impending confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

Given President Bush's recent appointments during congressional recess, cronyism at its worst as far as I'm concerned, I believe it is imperative that you and the rest of the Congress cease all confirmation hearings on all Bush nominees until he is investigated for potential criminal wrongdoing.

There is considerable debate over whether his order to bypass the FISA courts is constitutional or not. At the very least, hearings and investigations NEED to be conducted on this matter.

Also, Jack Abramoff's recent guilty pleas and his considerable connections to Bush, other leading Republicans, and the religious right, need to be investigated and those implicated need to be prosecuted.

On top of all this, special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is still investigating the CIA leak of Scooter Libby and possibly others within the Bush administration.

Also, Senator Pat Roberts has pledged to hold inquiries into the matter of pre-war intelligence, and whether it was purposefully fabricated by the CIA and/or the administration itself. These inquiries were delayed in 2004, and we were told they would be held in the latter part of 2005, but no progress has been made.

Given all of these seperate issues, it seems particularly callous and irresponsible to allow President Bush to continue to make key appointments, including the all important Supreme Court appointment, with all these shady situations and potential criminal wrongdoing hanging over his head.

I think you should suspend all hearings for Alito, and others who may come up, and investigate these matters promptly. It is your duty as my representative, and I expect you to do so.

The Buck Stops With Bush, but you need to hold him accountable. Don't let the country down.
