Do you think I will be forgiven?
After reading the DU posting on Alice Fisher being the prosecuting attorney for the Abramoff case, I fired off an email to my own two senators, as well as several others that are influential. Including all the New England senators, which, of course, means Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and Lincoln Chafee.

Here is the text I sent:

Dear Senator ,

It has come to my attention that the prosecuting attorney on the Jack Abramoff case is Alice Fisher, who has known ties with Bill Frist, Senate Majority Leader, in his HCA lawsuit. I personally believe this is a conflict of interest, and would like to know what steps need to be taken to have Judge Fisher recused from the case per her known association with Senator Frist. It is bad enough that we are faced with a Judiciary biased toward the Republicans, and that an impeachment process would be futile, but to have this additional kind of blatant disregard for the laws of our country to be followed is way beyond the pale.

Please advise if possible about what steps can be taken to correct this problem, if any, and to assure that a true, fair and balanced criminal prosecution is conducted, and that those who are tainted by bribery and other collusion are punished appropriately for their misdeeds.

Thank you for your attention to this.

Do you think the Republicans I mentioned will forgive me for the somewhat untorward comment I made about Republicans? Or am I toast?

6. Yep
It's probably been bugged for awhile. But then, most of the time, all they would get are fighting cats and me yelling at them!

4. Hell, I'll stand with ya, and bring the butter and jam!
I've been targeted at airports ever since this wiretapping shit started up. Coincidence? I think not! So much for decades of honorable military service at fairly high reaches of government--my voter registration tells my tale!

5. Didn't seem too harsh to me
Civilised people can have disagreements, but Republicans are basically... uh.... what am I saying?

I take it back. Better not fly in any small planes.

12. Seriously, though
I don't think you'll have any problem with Snowe, Chafee or Collins. They're already in trouble with the hardliners in the party.

17. I always remember the short lived series,
Mr. Sterling, and a quote he made while justifying why he was an Independent. Paraphrasing, he said "why should I be part of some party when a Northern Republican is more liberal than a Southern Democrat?"

That pretty much is how I view those three Republicans.

19. It was a short lived series
with Josh Brolin. It was 2002-2003, and was about the son of a California retired senator who takes over when the previous senator dies, and he takes over. However, those who put him into the Senate don't realize he's not a Dem, but an Independent. It only lasted one season, but it was surprisingly fresh and articulate. William Russ was one of his people--I think he was his press secretary.

10. You may just get a call back from one.
LOL our letter or call got us a call from John Conyers. When I saw the name "John Conyers's" on my caller ID-I thought it was one of his staff. When I answered his call I could have fallen off my chair when I heard his voice. I passed the phone to my hubby. Be prepared when or if you get a call from them.

14. It was your post that inspired me!
I just hope it does some good. We seem to have an endless supply of spineless Dems right now, and that makes us really look weaker than we really are. It seems Conyers is one of the few willing to stick out his neck for the country. Many of the others can't get their act together to do shit if it means putting their jobs on the line. I know it's not completely possible, but I wish we could start with a complete and utterly clean slate and just start all over again when it comes to our purported "civil servants."

Otherwise, if he's already pleaded guilty, does it matter if she remains?

16. I don't know
since he has now turned state's evidence. But it still isn't a good idea for someone with ties to a major suspect in the scandal to be heading the prosecution team.

20. No toast.
Your statements regarding Rep's won't detract from your message, i.e. Fisher may be viewed as tainted.

You might want to lighten up in future contacts though. I suspect there is a list for "kooks", and you want to appear reasonable, even if you disagree.
