Regarding "The Book of Daniel"
My local affiliate is muting the promos, so they've most likely decided not to air (my sister kmlewis has a thread about that).

However, I have an idea. I want to make a list of all the shows that NBC airs, and find reasons that someone, somewhere might be offended by them. Then I can send them all in...

I've run out of ideas; I'm tired. Some I didn't think of anything. Please suggest your own. Most of mine seem to be spoofing the wingnuts, but I'm wanting ANYTHING. Here's what I've got so far:

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Surface - The "creatures" in the show are obviously monsters, and since they weren't
mentioned in the Bible, then they're anti-Christian.

Las Vegas - Gambling = anti-family and sinful

Medium - Spiritualism is satanic/cultic.

Fear Factor - They often eat non-kosher "food."

Scrubs - See ER

E-Ring - Right-wing promo for the Bush Administration.

Biggest Loser - Biased against people with eating disorders.

Will & Grace - homosexual agenda

Four Kings - ?

My Name is Earl - Karma is not a Christian concept, therefore is evil.

The Office - ?

ER - Hospitals are offensive to Christian Scientists.

Crossing Jordan - Children could become criminals from watching. Criminals could get ideas.

Law & Order - See "Crossing Jordan"

Dateline - Liberal media bias.

The West Wing - The president is a Democrat, and the Democratic party is the party of sodomites
and baby-killers.

3. Soap Operas: lots of sex, divorce, incest, demonic possession, serial
killers, accelerated adulthood, face lifts, etc. Few churches except for weddings and funerals, and no one ever stays dead.

9. LOL so true
As a soap opera watcher so true. Oh and on both the soaps I watch (Days of Our Lives and Passions) they're both Catholic. Apparently Catholics aren't real Christian's to most. (I believe they are)

10. Are so real Christians!!
At least, this former Catholic says so. (I'm agnostic now, but if there was such a thing as Culturally Catholic (like being culturally Jewish) I'd still be Catholic.)

My mom was a huge Days fan, and I've watched Passions a few times just so I understand Buffy the Vampire Slayer references.... :hi:

11. most fundies would deny that
except, of course, Catholic fundies, but even they probably go beyond average Catholicism. To a fundy, no one is a real Christian unless a) they have been born again and/or b) they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. But do not ask me to explain what b) is supposed to mean.

12. When I was a Catholic, I had been born again in the spirit and I felt I
had a personal relationship with Jesus. Many religious thinkers believe that the process of conversion of the heart is continual and ongoing, and there's no way to be "saved" through a single action.

I studied theology too much.... there's a reason that agnosticism claimed me... *grin*

As it happens, I have no idea either how one has a personal relationship with someone who has been dead, if he ever existed at all, for 2000 years. I think the "personal relationship" is more one of having a personal relationship with one's conscience, rather than the passing acquaintance most people have, or treating it like an unwanted creditor like certain 700 Club founders do...

13. to fundies it happens once
My cousin preaches that you cannot lose your salvation. He even got fired for doing so.

Fundies would not deny that Catholics can be born again, however, that is not what the Catholic church teaches. Their doctrine of salvation and many other teachings would be considered unbiblical by fundies.

Reborn several times in some cases.... :eyes:

And in fact there is a community teaching (not yet a doctrine) that born and bred Catholics need to "reconvert" or "be reborn in the spirit" as a means of renewal of faith. It's a very important teaching for teenagers especially, those going through Confirmation, to help keep them in the fold -- that age is the age that other churches like to target to "poach".

As for what fundies don't like about Catholicism, the list is longer than what they don't like about TV.

7. Just finished watching the show. What's so controversial?
Seems like any other dramedy I've seen, except for the pastor on Vicodin.

8. Plus, he's an Episcopalian...
To the fundies, that makes him Satan's tool anyway! I thought it was entertaining, but after all the hype, I was expecting more blasphemy and man on dog sex:evilgrin:
