Poll question: I'm reading more and more on how offshoring is being limited...
Limited in terms of ONLY basic low-end stuff being sent overseas and that higher-paying jobs stay here.

It's been said in many magazines like Forbes, some internet-based job seeking and other related sites, and even newspapers.

Is this an attempt at consoling the public? Or is it a load of bunk?

1. They are sending every well paying job they can to the lowest wage
country they can find. They sent US jobs to Mexico. Then they sent Mexican jobs to India then Indian jobs to Chinese prisons.

2. This is how the
companies who don't want to deal with the p/r consequences of off-shoring are doing stuff: they get work visas for hundreds of foreign computer people, engineers or whatever, and bring them over here to work. The foreign employees are paid substantially below the prevailing salaries for people doing similar jobs here. They often live together in small apartments, sharing rent and other expenses and sending as much money as possible (remittances) home. I knew one guy several years ago who had a contract with a large firm to provide 250 foreign workers for jobs here.

3. And our tax dollars go to paying their education for English AND technical
skills.

At least the English training; from the grapevine it's been said that the money is used for extra training too.

All for higher profits and duping the populace. :tinfoilhat: Though it makes sense; one of the basic laws of profit is to go for the lowest price, period...

5. Actually, I don't think we are paying

anything to teach them English or tech. skills. There is no doubt that these are highly trained people. They are also paying taxes here, since they work and buy stuff. The loss to us is twofold--people here are not getting employment because they are too expensive and this is an effective tool for keeping unions out. Needless to say, someone on a temporary work visa is not going to be suing the employer regarding work conditions.

6. We only pay for their training
to the extent that they pay "in-state" tuition at state universities if they are employed and have a local address.

(I took some grad engineering night school classes at SJSU - I was the only US citizen in the class).

4. Any solid examples?
of corps choosing against offshoring???

Any tech jobs getting shipped back here from India? Any divestment in chip production facilities in China?

didn't think so.

8. I am curious
Is offshoring being limited and jobs coming back here, or they just not hiring ANYbody, anywhere? I've read maybe one article and it didn't address this point. It seems I read a whole lot more about coming layoffs and other bad news. I'd like to think that the backlash has been great enough that companies come back, but that doesn't match the reality I am living. I have never worked so hard to find a job and my situation is getting desperate.
