FBI called in on Hill
By Bob Cusack and Jackie Kucinich

The FBI and Capitol Police are investigating the vicious attack of a top Senate staffer at her home last week amid concerns that the assault might be related to her work on the Finance Committee.

Emilia DiSanto, chief investigator for committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), arrived at her suburban Virginia home after work Wednesday about 6:30 p.m. As she was unloading belongings from her car, a 6-foot-1-inch white man dressed in black struck her repeatedly with an unidentified object believed to be a baseball bat.

...

Grassley is known for his aggressive oversight of the public and private sector. Over the past year, he has scrutinized healthcare fraud, organ-donation procedures used by hospitals, drug-safety matters and the use of nonprofit groups related to former lobbyist Jack Abramoff.( who is indicted for indian casino scam and a murder in fla over the buying of cruise ships for gambling! who has strong ties to bush and tom delay!)

In her line of work, DiSanto “doesn’t make a lot of friends,” an aide said.

2. Yes I remember...
When we are off level 1 I will do a search and post back in this thread. There were several posts about it a couple of months ago.

3. A bit of caution
I do recall the stories of Grassley's aide being attacked, but I think it's a big stretch to connect it to Abramoff at this point.

If the archive search reveals differently, I'll eat my hat. :)

8. Although your caution makes good sense,
I can't help thinking of what happened to that SunCruz casino business lowner. (What was his name? Gus Boulis?) As you know, he was whacked in a mob-style hit. Directly before his murder, he'd had some very bad differences with Abramoff and Abramoff's associate Kidan, who he said had bilked him out of his casino cruise business.

The alleged 3 actual murderers have been indicted. But those 3 men had no independent reason to kill Boulis. So... who hired them to do it? My opinion is that Abramoff is one of those who ordered the hit. I have no personal knowledge which would back up my opinion. It's just an opinion. I'm in a wait-and-see mode.

4. I've said it before.....these guys are the mob on steroids.
And yes, although it hasn't been talked about on the news shows, I do remember the murder connected to Abramoff's casino boat deal in Florida.

5. here's a small blurb about the ongoing investigation:
From last month: http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051204/OPINION01/512040326/1035/OPINION

Still no arrests in the mysterious case of the attack on Emilia DiSanto, a top investigator for Sen. Charles Grassley, outside her suburban Virginia home, according to FBI officials. But the investigation continues into whether there was any link with work DiSanto was doing for Grassley. . . . Grassley is poking around a fracas at American University involving the institution's former president, Benjamin Ladner. Ladner left the university with a $3.75 million severance payment after an uproar over his entertaining expenses and other spending. Grassley said he will focus on whether university board members performed their duties and responsibilities to the standard of what should be expected at a major university

10. I don't think they get to be as tall as 6' 1".
Hoaxes tend to be a bit shorter, but not near as squat as a gnome.

7. Don't forget that Grassley also is an FBI watchdog too!
He has been a big defender of Sibel Edmonds as well as the rights of other whistleblowers and has said over and over he wants to cut through the FBI's BS. If Abramoff is linked to the AIPAC scandal amongst other things the FBI is investigating (or was supposed to investigate, but isn't due to mismanagement, etc.), then that might be another connection.

After she screamed to her family inside the house, the assailant fled. DiSanto was transported to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, where she was treated for significant upper-body injuries. Nine staples were needed to close her head wound.

(snip)

The only reason why the FBI is involved is because the assault may have been work-related.
