MSNBC Live Poll - Do you think the economy is on the right track?

Here's what I wrote:

Bush is WRONG. This economy is the worst I have ever seen in my lifetime. I have been unable to find work for the first time EVER! The deficit that Bush has run up (more than all the Presidents before him combined) is dangerous and he wants to raise the debt level again. Millions of Americans slipping into poverty under Bush. We are NOT doing well. This economy is NOT good. It's teetering on a perilous edge and NO fancy banner hung up behind Bush is going to fix it either. Most Americans are hurting financially, or, like us, they are barely getting by. It's another slap in the face from Bush for him to go on tour using tax payer money to tell us how great things are when we know better. More lies from Bush. More photo ops. While America and Americans suffer. Impeach him already!

The economy is fabulous! Unfortunately for the majority of us, we exist in the 95% of Americans who are not enjoying the boom. We have seen our fortunes decline to the point where we work longer for less than ever before, if we are lucky enough to have a job at all. Expensive college degrees do little to ensure one a decent job, but the service sector is indeed booming.

4. I have one of those expensive college degrees and have been
out of work for over two years.

You are so right about "if they are lucky enough to have a job at all".

"Jobless economy" is the result of GDP growth not filtering down to regular folks.

18. Doesn't this tell the MSNBC ownership something?
MSNBC polls online show that the American mindset is not in consort with the right-wing slant that MSNBC is pandering to.

25. They talk about the number of jobs in the US, but
forget to mention how many people have been imported to take those jobs. Perhaps we need to compare the number of jobs in the 1990's and the number of jobs in 2005 and subtract the number of work visas issued for both periods to see how many
AMERICANS are employed during both time periods.

Adding jobs and then importing workers to fill them does not make the average American any better off.

This administration and Republican Congress has been great for the economy of India.

34. Nice letter.
Here's my response to their question.

There is no "surging, booming economy." It's an illusion being passed around by republicans. The claims are based solely on corporate earnings, not on employment statistics, not on mean income, not on housing or business starts, not on anything that truly matters to joe citizen.

By cutting taxes, yet continuing with outrageous spending, the country is headed towards bankruptcy. China has been buying up American debt. Eisenhower used to use the threat of calling in debts to coerce or alter other countries’ policies.

By putting ourselves in such a disadvantaged position; the only way the president can avoid the same tactic being used against the US, would be to act like a global tyrant. America's only real bargaining chip would be our military might. Shirking debt and using the threat of force would alienate the US from the world body even further than Bush already has.
