And send their Social Security checks to his sorry ass, or else he wouldn't have the money and power he does.

3. Well, I used to from time to time....
...with a cold 6-pack after work! I used to just laugh & laugh. The scary thing about Robertson is that he believes his own bullshit.

4. I understand he has a following in the millions, but I agree with you.
Most of the world would never pay any attention to anything he says if the media would ignore him. Think about it. With all the comments by thousands daily, why does he always get press?

6. My Family, for Example
My mother used to volunteer as a phone counselor for the 700 Club. (And she is a wonderful person, BTW.) My brother works as an IT manager for what used to be the data division of CBN.

I just try to avoid talking religion on holidays. I have very specific opinions, but it's not worth wrecking the whole family for nothing.

You would be surprised at the number of silent supporters Pat R has. Just like a lot of DUers aren't vocal about politics at work, so are a lot of evangelicals.

10. what is sad
is that these folks faith is being exploited - in what they believe to be the name of God - they are led further and further away from the teachings of Christ, by Charlatans who when all is said and done could give a damn about folks souls... pass the collection plate please...

13. I Agree -- They're Being Exploited and Called "Wackos"
by those who are exploiting them. In a way I understand it because I was too -- a long time ago. It takes unusual circumstances to escape that kind of environment.

14. and they are commodified by their "leaders"
both Shelton (True Values Coaltion) and Reed have marketed their services to others (consulting, etc.) based on their ability to "deliver" Christian voters, or letters/pressure from Christians. In short - they commodify each follower and view that person as such (a marketing point which is to be used to make obscenely vast amounts of money.)

7. he must get a bump
he must get a bump in donations or viewers or something everytime he says something crazy. Think about it....everytime he does this all the sudden EVERYONE is talking about Pat Robertson.

The guy may be crazy but he's not stupid. The man must know how insane he sounds. He is playing all of us for fools. Gets the left all whipped up so that his people get all whipped up defending him.

11. I agree with you 100% and then some..
"The guy may be crazy but he's not stupid. The man must know how insane he sounds. He is playing all of us for fools. Gets the left all whipped up so that his people get all whipped up defending him."

And, there are those backslider Christians who hear Pat`s name and it reminds them that they don`t want to die and go to hell, so they flip over to see what is going on/being said at CBN and BAM they got `em. even if it`s 3% increase- it`s an increase.

I don`t know if they sell anything besides God on CBN - does anyone know if they make any money selling?

12. My brother
My brother who is a successful, smart and talented man (and who I don't think is a fundie) has been working very closely with uncle Pat on a big media project for the last several years. At our last family reunion, my bro raised his eyebrows once and assured me that Pat Robertson is a very smart man...

Maybe there's an equation in the American psyche between financial success/power and intelligence/credibility. Maybe for many Americans these days, money has become the measure of one's worth in this world and also the next.

I haven't a clue - but then again, I don't believe in God in any way that you'd notice, I'm not a millionaire, AND I don't hang out with any either.

Baffled in Amerika,

citizen J.
